Ideas for Tyranid bases?

Well, after reading the ultramarines omnibus book tyranids actually bring about some cool stuff when they come to a world. Unique plants (fern-like since apparently they reproduce by spores mixed with intense evolutionary changes), combined with the slaughtering of people you could do many things.

I am a new painter but if I did them doing something of a mix between exotic different plants, exploded spore remains, dead people etc would be very cool. Perhaps the sacks that the tyranids came out of fluids and all? Also don\'t forget their weapons also utilize needle like stuff, so using some kind of grass painted up like bio needles would be cool. As for lictors they take the look of the landscape, the lictors they showcased on GW website were cool in that they painted them to almost mimic the landscape they were set into.

I wouldn\'t try to jump into water effects
(lol - didja see what I did there :p) straight away - it can be a bit tricky to get looking right, and you don\'t wanna ruin a perfectly good bit of terrain covering it in goo, unless you know how it\'s gonna end up.

But, having said that, a few burst pods and things should be ok.

I\'m thinking Crysalises, shed skins, etc...
Maybe you could get an unpainted Tyranid, cover it in a few thin coats of PVA, then peel it off, the use some of the \"skin\" to lay over pieces of scenery? (JUST though of it)

Keep in mind tyranids are a mix of so much evolutionary crap. Like something about a creature? bring it to the character, Shed skins? Broken pieces of carapace, food pellets (owl anyone?).

On a frozen world? they can burrow underground during the cold evenings to avoid death...

Jungle? new exotic plants that spew out spores and change the local weather and landscape choking, and killing off local plant life, or worse, literally burrowing into already living plants and draining them off...

Rocky outcroppings? They will cave burrow into those also, and don\'t forget the biological tube torpedo\'s that these things come out off.

Dead guardsmen missing stuff with little bugger worms eating him alive (bio weapons). I want to say read the ultramarines omnibus for some amazing imagery (the first book I read after getting into the painting hobby).

nip to a pet shop that sells coral bits and nick some of the small chipped bits off of them makes cool different looking structures growing out of things....anything organic that is taking over man made structure fits well with nids even as simple as rolling out some greenstuff tendrils and laying them around te place....

@DaN shedded skins Yoink........:beer:

Ya they mentioned that the nid boarding tubes looked almost like coral I believe in the book, done up in a paint job with an area thats carved out to look like the thing just came out of it (maybe a sack or something hanging from a hole?) would look amazing if done right...

(just ideas I wouldn\'t even know where to begin but ideas come to me easily ^..~)
