If Bill/others are around, HELP

Right, over the last few days Ive been hearing little noises in my room, (not those noises) and I finally traced it to the fire place, which has a drop down cover, and to my knowledge, was blocked up the top.

When I opened it today, I was most surprised to find what I think is a small tawny owl in there, looking terrified out his wits.

He/shes about 5 inchs tall, mottled brown/white patterning, and no distinguishable features on his/her face, at least in the short glance I took before shutting the shutter again.

Right, heres my problem, sun wont go down for quite some time, I think hes been in there about 2 days, and hungry, I dont want to let him free until well after the suns gone, as we live next to the clock tower, which is full of crows, and I dont think hed make it.

SO, what do they feed on, that I might be able to grab now, so hes got something in him to be able to fly off and hopefull catch something.

poor thing...... owls hunt, so I would guess small mice, lizards, small birds even bugs. Do you have a Wildlife Rescue group in you town, they are the best people to take in an owl.

I have a pub, and thats about it really.

Im just gonna give him something to eat, let him free and hope for the best.

Of course, I am also floating the idea that he is in fact nesting in there, in which case, by tomorrow morning Ill post again saying that the little bastard has come back and kept me up all night again.

Thanks, my neighbour has two tarantulas, a python and another big snake, Im sure hes got a source of bugs I can raid.

best thing is ring the rspca, they will either send an inspector if they class it as in danger or a volunteer who lives nearby (may dad used to do this hence the advice!) if you do have to feed it i would suggest small strips of raw chicken or if you have any grashoppers or moth handy they will do

Could be a Little Owl.

Best bet is to find a local Animal Rescue centre on the internet, or call the RSPB.

I hope it wil be ok.

Asked my neighbour, the only thing near me is a cat rescue, and they just drop the cats with some old boy, and thats it.

However, heard the owls start their howling and racket, and according to mum they were very noisy the last couple of nights, so I took the little guy out into the field, where he took off, and flew out of sight.

Up to him now, heres hoping.

Once the crows have left for the day, the owls take over the clock tower, so he wont be far from mum.

I wouldn\'t suggest that, your neighbour might have something to say about you feeding his tarantulas to your owl.

glad to hear the guy got away ok.

We ended up with a small screetch owl after Hurricane Charlie... How he got into the house, I have no idea. I suspect that one of the cats found him stunned and brought him in to play with.

We tried to herd him out of the house with the doors open, but he wouldn\'t go. Finally, we threw a blanket over him, bundled him up, then took him outside and opened the bundle. He sat there for a couple of minutes, got his bearings and then took off. Never seen him again.


PS, I\'d go check the screen on top of the chimney if I was you....

Yeah, weve gotta get up and check the roof anyway, weve had a heap of tiles come off lately, but its three stories, and no way up, and I have no ladder.

why? It seemed to work on that little screetch owl. Calmed him down and let us carry him outside before he hurt himself trying to fly around inside.

I did the same thing, but with a t shirt, just scooped him right up, took him out into the field, and off he went, happy as larry.
