............I like the ideas on ColtheReaver - if GW were to start limited edition sculpts and advertised them well I think they would have a PR boost.
Anyone remember the Limited edition Gotrek & Felix group GW did a few years ago?
No, well I bought two of the sealed Foil Packets and in the space of ten minutes watched eight sets get returned for miscast/mispackages.
GW is a business which has to cater for a large target consumer audience, painters like ourselves are in the minority as far as GW are concerned and pandering to us takes away from their core aim of making as much profit for their investors.
PR isn't aimed at the customers though, PR is aimed at attracting additional investment. Customer Relations however is something entirely different and as GW's main customer base isn't a demographic group with influence, discernment or long purchasing lifetime, its not a high priority issue for them.
I know they did try to do things for painter - anyone remember their master level paint brushes (or whatever they were called)?
Those were just a rebadged Winsor & Newton box set with a bit of brass added as a water pot.
I'm not sure the number Col mentioned though - it might be too much. I do like the Primarch idea though . . . .
Trouble is, as stated, limited use in armies therefore limited sales appeal.
Expectation of 12 primarchs at £X amount per gamer as opposed to 100 Space marines at £XX amount per gamer plus Add-Ons like tanks, flyers etc....What would make them more money?
Producting Limited Edition Figures has to be cost effective, no one, no business can risk a loss leader or something that doesn't shift off the shelves.
Producing figures which don't appeal to a mass market demand above the production number is too big a business risk in an unstable financial climate (or a stable one).
