If you Buy or Sell on eBay

nice idea, pity it screws over the people who need ebay to sell their stuff.

oh and funnily enough, it appears it has wargamers market as the main people pushing this idea.

I fail to see how this screws over anyone. The boycott is not WGM\'s idea, but came from a lot of po\'ed sellers over at eBay.

The whole point (the way I sees it) is that we all would have a lot to gain by helping an alternate venue thrive so that we can sell our wares at decent prices without getting bled at every step by eBay to feed their shareholders.

There\'s a reason that competition is good for consumers. We have a chance to do something for ourselves here.

well since most of what I sell on eBay is through my store and is BIN the small extra amount Ill be charged is not a big deal to me at the moment.

eBay is still the largest target audience for most things.

as for the whole feedback issues and payment issues well in over a 1000 salkes Ive had 2 problem buyers who no payed..not a big deal. Mosst of what I sell requires immediate payment now anyways..so no chance of backing out.

this boycott from ebay for a week won\'t hurt ebay at all, the customer base is too large.
all it will affect is the smaller sellars, funnily enough the people who don\'t want to be ripped off by ebay.

i do agree that ebay is taking the piss, i\'m just sick off hearing about how wargames market is a better alternative, when it cleary isn\'t.
the customers are still on ebay, and funnily enough, that\'s still where the sellars are.

But that\'s what I\'m getting at! Nothing will ever change if no-one\'s willing to try. I\'m not saying WGM is the greatest place in the world, nor am I saying \"drop everything and move over completeley\" (though if everyone did, wouldn\'t that be effective?) What I\'m saying is that it\'s a decent site and worth trying out. It\'s easy, VERY inexpensive, and has potential.

Heck, you can set up a $9.99 item with Buy-it-Now, set a duration of 2 months, set it to automatically relist 10 times, and let it ride. It will be up for up to 20 months if it doesn\'t sell (or even if it does; you have the option to keep it up!) and you know what it\'ll cost you from start to finish? Exactly 2 CENTS.

I\'m sure the boycott won\'t effect eBay in any noticeable way; boycotts rarely do. So why not band together and do something FOR OURSELVES? Like go to a site that isn\'t always ratcheting up their fees, making weird policy changes, giving perks only to power sellers, and making it perfectly clear that they don\'t really care (lip service notwithstanding) whether the small guys live or die?

No buyers? Get everyone who\'s bought from you in the past to try it out! No sellers? Do the same for everyone you\'ve bought from, and put a few things up yourself!

Anyway, sorry to start ranting, but I\'m feeling uncharacteristically zealous about this, and I really think it\'s something we should all get behind.

it\'s suited to the american budget wargaming market, from how it\'s set up to how it\'s advertised.

i was interested at one stage and they shot them selves in the foot with all the spam and anti ebay crap they put every where.

if i do set up an auction site shop it will be on ebid.
no listing fees and 3% final sales price tax, unless you make the one off payment and then there is no final sales tax.
and the best part is, they haven\'t harrased me with countless emails or made anti ebay remarks on every bloody forum i go on.

doesn\'t matter how many buyers you have if there are no sellers. ;)

eBay makes nothing from buyers. the day they start charging to buy on the site is the day eBay.com becomes a domain name you can purchase at godaddy.

WGM\'s still cheaper.

But I certainly can\'t argue with your getting annoyed. Can\'t blame them for campaigning, but not everyone\'s going to appreciate it! For what it\'s worth, I\'m really REALLY cheesed off at eBay over this latest round of changes, and it\'s been growing for the past few years.

Still, if the campaigning and eBay bashing annoy you and others, I\'m afraid I haven\'t been helping matters much!

It\'s really wierd: I\'m NOT the grassroots political activist type. Apparently I\'ve just found out what my Hot Button is!

i can fully understand every one getting realy, realy pissed off at ebay (i am as well)
time will tell how much damage they have done to themselves, i persoanly feel they are still the best place to sell due to their audience.

Aye, but why not try and change that?

There\'s no reason you can\'t sell on both sites, and try and coax your customers to the other one that doesn\'t charge you 8% of your earnings plus listing fees plus 3%+$.30 (or whatever it is now) for every transaction.

Simple Math: $9.99 item on eBay (last time I checked; numbers may be a little off), paid with PayPal costs $.35 listing, $.85 FVF, then PayPal (owned by eBay) takes another $.64! That\'s $1.84, fully 18% of your GROSS earnings.

I have been following this since you started this thread and it has got to the stage now that even though you claim no connection to wargamers market you seem to be fighting their corner as if it is your dying breath???

You have to remember that most of the people on this sight that sell on EBay have been doing so for some time and have good/high feed back ratings so to that end does it really amtter???

It\'s change.
The vast majority of people do not adjust with change.
I like WGM as well. I am selling. There aren\'t many buyers. And it really sucks that it will probably not survive.
I wanted to buy there...but I didn\'t see any sellers with stuff I wanted.
It needs help, from both buyers and sellers. But I think it is more for us gamers than ebay. Niche market. Hope it survives and strives. But the fact is, it needs us to survive..and the majority of \"us\" are crotchety and immobile. Good luck there.

Heh heh. Touche\'. You can check around though: I\'ve been here, on Bartertown.com, and Lordsofthebattlefield.com for years, all under the same name. I\'ve been on WGM for 2 weeks. I don\'t work for them, but believe it or not, I really do feel that strongly about all of this.

I\'ve been selling on eBay for YEARS (under the username the_knave,) so I have a lot of time and success invested in it too. That\'s probably why I\'m so furious about the worsening conditions (as I see it) in recent years, culminating in this current load of baloney.

Incidentally, WGM has a feature that enables you to import your eBay feedback, as well as that of other sites.

ebay has the customers who prefer to pay for quality.

YES, so WHY NOT TRY TO CHANGE IT?!??

FYI guys this guy has been posting on TMP and pretty much has pissed off the forum with his hard sell tactics. If you want to push your site then push your site but don\'t do it by spamming boards, PMs, and E-bay messages.
http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=133703

Everytime someone dissagrees with them he imediatly posts and has to argue with them

I have been to the site a few times, and it is a joke. I\'ll pass, the few extra coints I spend on E-bay are worth it as I reach more eyes.

That being the case there is a very strong smell of the farm yard here...

>>Taken from \"Theminiaturespage\" Quote - In USD terms a $25 USD list/ sale would be:

Listing fee of $1 USD
FVF of $2.18 USD

Total of $3.18 USD taken from a $25 USD sale (12.72%)

End Quote<<

$25 bucks = £12.50 GBP therefore to list on this would cost a lot more than Ebay with half if that of the potential buyers.

I think this is a blatant way of trying to sell yourself and your idea and that you should take this proposal and clean up the mess in the yard with it.

Here\'s a fee list straight of their site: http://www.wargamesmarket.com/sitefees.php

I\'ve personally listed over 50 items (sold one this morning,) and it\'s cost me exactly what\'s on that page.

As for annoying people on TMP, I certainly can\'t defend that.

But as for posting on boards and sending messages (Yes, spamming if you think the word applies,) how else could one get a message out if not by telling people about it?

I don\'t mind paying fees; it\'s part of doing business and supports the venue in which you\'re selling. And I\'ve already made it clear why I\'m upset at eBay. But when does it stop? What kind of fees will they be expecting of their sellers in another 2 years?

And why does it seem so impossible for someone like me to be mad enough about it to go around trying to get people to leave for somewhere different? It doesn\'t have to be WGM, Hell! I only care about that site because it\'s what came up on a Google search and it looked like a place to start. I liked what I saw, so I\'m telling other people.

As for \"this guy,\" I can\'t blame you for thinking you smell a rat. Trouble is there\'s not much I can do about it. I\'m just a hobbyist from San Diego who\'s sick of getting squeezed by the venue of choice, looked for another, found one, and is trying to get other people to come on board. Isn\'t that what people doe when they find something interesting, try a new restaurant, or see a good movie?

:edit:
I have been to the site a few times, and it is a joke.

Even eBay was, once upon a time. But people gave them a chance.

A boycott on buying stuff sounds like a great idea to me. While everyone else is on their high horse, the fact that I\'m an unscrupulous git will allow me to pick up loads of cheap bargains lol

I\'m one of those guys who feel like I was just given the boot by eBay and I don\'t work for WGM. The issue is NOT to drop eBay. You guys are 100% right... they have the corner market in potential buyers. Dropping them is not the way to go. Instead, WGM should be seen as an ADDITION to your eBay market. If you paint models that normally rank over 8, you should exposed them in eBay. Make MONEY! When you sell such a model, send an invitation to your buyer to visit your store over WGM.

In that store you could put bases, bits and stuff you want in a fixed price. Anything there of $9.99 or less with a fixed price will cost you $0.02 for 2 months, and if it doesn\'t sell it can be setup for automatic to auto-post for FREE 10 more time. Come on... a fixed type auction for 20 months for $0.02? That is unbeatable. The smart thing to do is to keep selling in eBay AND send your customer to your other auctions in WGM... they may find something they like and you make more $.

You don\'t own any loyalty to anyone except to yourself, your art and... your pocket! Ebay has the exposure and WGM has the low fees. You can use both. Once WGM has the traffic, well that is when the decision where to post is difficult.

Also someone posted that they could not found what they wanted. Did you post it on the WANTED NOW section or simply looked around and bailed out? You could have posted something... maybe the next guy who visits the site reads that post and says \"hey... I have THAT!\" and you can get it VERY cheap. *shrug* Who knows...

The point is that we have to join up and maximize ALL of our avenues. We need eBay\'s traffic... PERIOD. Whoever drops eBay all together is a fool. But nothing prevents US to maximize our exposure. It is like when you hate your job and decide to look for a new one. You keep quiet and go to interviews until you get the one you want. THEN you kick your boss in the nuts.
lol

This is not a flame eBay issue... this is a \'LET\'S TAKE CONTROL OF OUR COMMUNITY\' issue. I push for all the places I sell... why don\'t you expand your reach, instead of letting other decide what to do?
