To anyone who didn\'t receive a mail and who\'s email address is valid, check your spam filter.

Hotmail especially has been a bit militant with our emails, and I\'m not sure why since I still receive tons of spam on my Hotmail account.

I could do bits and pieces to help. Will someone be drawing up a grid system for everyone who wants to help to work on?

An Update.

I\'ve been contacted by the Trading Standards Office about this. (*) They confirm that a breach of copyright has taken place and are now investigating.

I contacted my local TSO earlier this week and left a message regarding all this. Unfortunatley they took a little while to get back to me, but are interested and as I said are investigating. I\'ve told them about the whole issue as well as the previous occurence and the fact that there are numerous authors involved from al over the world.
They will update me in about 7 days.

(* Trading Standards Offices in the UK check on lots of issues regarding infringement of copyrights and have legal powers regarding such breaches.)

Sueing costs a lot of money, not worth it at all. :drunk:

Guess I\'m the lone arse here in that I don\'t work for free when others are making a profit (sorry Chern). Not that I\'ve made any articles anyway so it doesn\'t really matter and I\'m quite happy to see so many offering up so much. Oddly about me, I have no problem working for free when noone is making a profit and I don\'t mind working dirt cheap for a worthy cause (I\'m about to become a catalog painter and am accepting credit in exchange for service, mostly because I want them to do well).

Anyway, do a good job! I\'ll buy a copy assuming this all goes well and they end up for sale.

Unfortunatley it\'s not that simple. We individually own the copyrights to our own articles, its highly likely that should we try to organise a \"Multiple claimant\" action it would cost more that we could get returned.
Small claims courts would be our best way forward but even then we would have to do that individually. Plus it\'s not really feasible for the people living outside the UK.
Besides I personally wouldn\'t want a percentage, and by that allow this copyright theif to get a single penny.

Actually I don\'t want any money out of this, it\'s the point of principle now. First time I was happy to let it die down after sending the Cease & Desist notice. He put up a \"Apology\" of sorts.
This time it\'s blatant and really rubbing Sh*t in our faces. Hence why I\'m willing to push the Trading Standards Officers in his direction and hopefully make his life miserable.

Anyway, do a good job! I\'ll buy a copy assuming this all goes well and they end up for sale. Considering the amount of people willing to work on this I think it will be quite worthwhile.

I dont think profit was the point... wasnt it to do with ploughing money back into CMoN for server maintenance and the time and effort of keeping the site up and running. It helps (along with those nekkid laydeez) pay for those people without a star ;)

I\'ve just put together and editted the articles together, it\'s about 400 pages long. I\'m just wondering whether or not to put some form of DRM on it to allow printing but not distribution.

Hello stranger!

I think DRM will only stop the goodies from doing anything to it, the baddies will still crack it (unless you have a super duper idea!!)

Hows it looking anyway?

After much drm investigation, personally I think it is a bad idea.
I have just decided to use the Creative Commons License that is appropriate and a watermarkhttp://creativecommons.org/weblog/entry/3981
DRM leaves an foul after taste for me. Purchased music I can not really use books I can not open unless I haul the computer around or beg the owner to allow me.

I think the watermark idea would be a good one! Obviously not written to any filed put aside for DL.
It might be worth putting watermarks on the articles openly displayed (have 2 sets of files. modified and unmodified).
If someone pays for the download it can be accessed perhaps with a temporary password?

Just a thought

How do you guys keep finding these. I never came across one.

If it was up to me, they would always get away with it.:(

I still do a check every week looking for any repeat of this. As yet no hits.
(Am I being Cynical in expecting a re-occurence).
