Im going to regret this

Well... What is scientology? I\'ve scouted around youtube in order to find something about this religion, i cant say that i do.

I know its probably a insensitive thread, but really... I got to know, what are the beliefs, if someone is in the church of scientology please speak up, and if someone know about it please! Shed some light on the subject, its been all over, South park did an episode on it, which they claim to be false and yada yada. People called anonymous (i think) and expose xenu are going around protesting the church, but never have i seen what the people in the church are believing... Help me, im confused!

Sorry if its an inconvenience, but just so you know, i dont care about your beliefs... I just find it odd... Obviously i would protest if there is something peculiar going on. And i know, people have there beliefs and faith, but something strange is going on here i believe. After watching some videos of scientologist using Enturbulate (word, shibboleth made up by L Ron Hubbard) and saying it has been in the english language before him.... I dont know about that, it was according to Wiktionary. And also going around asking about SP(suppressing people or something, term used to describe people who dont agree with scientology) peoples crimes, i dont know what that has to do with anything really, but they seem to like it and it throws the person off.

But why are there people trying to get rid of this church? They have had some legal problems according to them, but still, i dont know what their beliefs are! So if you can help me find out, that would be great!

PS. Nothing about being good and stuff, thats the basis of every religion! I mean thats even the basis of everything, is it not? Perhaps not for baddies, but...

Its strange that they call themselves a church and yet have no faith it feels like... Correct me if Im wrong please! I couldnt even click on the scientology website about what scientology is. Sure im bias, im an atheist and Im against some sort of universal thruth about how to be as a man and such... I respect people, not their faith.

My, how i will regret doing this thread i feel... and my poor english in the heat of passion as i wrote this. Just wanting to find out about this stuff!

Jesus was an alien. Aliens led the hebrews out of egypt. Angels are aliens. We\'re from another planet. Give all your money to the church. That kind of thing.

I\'ll do my best to give an unbiased synopsis on scientology, so here goes. GERONIMOOOOooooooo!!!

Scientology is based on the concept that thetans (spirits) cluster on people and cause them to be stressed and sad and such. By joining up with the church of scientology, one may rid themselves of their thetans. Once one gets to the higher levels of the religeon, more is revealed to them. This is normally a big secret, but one helpful soul, a former scientologist leaked it all over the place.

The \"space opera\" is what L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of scientology, calls the story of how the thetans got to earth in the first place. It goes as such:
The leader of the \"galactic confederacy\", Xenu, brought billions of people to earth 75 million years ago in douglas dc-8 airliners, stuffed \'em in volcanoes and blew them up with hydrogen bombs. The thetans then clustered onto people and have done so ever since. Never mind the fact that humans only started to come onto the scene 65 million years ago. Thetans must be patient, or move prohibitavely slow to their hosts.

Most people who think that scientology is BS think that because of the fact the L. Ron Hubbard wrote pulp fiction and science fiction before founding the church. I for one, think it\'s BS because of the sheer outrageosness of the space opera and its plot holes.

Anonymous is a group of hackers who reside in the /b/ board of 4chan (do NOT go there. images ranging from fluffy kittens to scat pr0n abound) and raid websites that offend them, or just for the hell of it. It is all for the lulz. Their raid on scientology was another raid, the ony thing that set it apart was that it took place in real life. I personally think that most of the people/sites they attack deserve it. That, or they antagonize them.

You can find more on both topics on wikipedia
Anonmymous
Scientology

Hope this helps.

Well, believing in aliens and such is fine, but this xenus stuff that i have been reading about, and that you adressed chaos, seems far fetched. How come they get angry when this is brought up?

Talking about this guy, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cGtUd_zBEA

He discards xenu, but he never says what its about?!? For me, Xenu would just be to easy! I mean, then i dont even respect the scientology people, i mean if they are just in it to try be good, thats fine, but if its the xenu crap... then its just so wierd...

I\'ve read another theory that LRH started it all as a practical joke to show how gullible and easily brainwashed people could be...

... and then got brainwashed by his own story.

I\'d like to know what Hubbard gave as evidence to his outragous claims. The story is SO specific with names and such, how could anybody not think he was just pulling this stuff out of his a**?

when you look at all religion objectively, all the stories seems mad. if someone came up with them now, you would assume it was some sort of cult

you just have to hope that people take away the good parts of religion, ie moral codes, hope etc. and don\'t twist it like some do...

i am an agnostic/atheist, so i think religion is rubbish but i can see it\'s value

When religion was first created (excluding scientology) it was so people could stay on the right path, but today it is completely out of date.
When scientology was created people had only just started to comprehend that aliens might exist and that the earth was not the centre of the universe, so with this new \"religion\" seemed very up to date.... somehow. Anyway I\'m atheist so I think all religions are as incorrect (scientology more so but I regard that as more of a cult).

@Crayfish

Scientology is a big shenanigans... like every sect. The best description of scitentology and what a load of c*** it is was done by southpark - if you haven´t seen the episode, you can watch it for free ( and legal ) HERE

but never have i seen what the people in the church are believing...

In the end, it\'s all about money. Give them all your money and belongings or work for them till you break down! Saw and read enough about this cult... Makes me sick! :flame:

From what I\'ve understood, Scientology works in a similar way to a pyramid game. Part of the strategy is to keep information secret and only obtainable by going through the \"proper channels\", i.e. take part in \"the game\"...

i think religion is rubbish but i can see it\'s value

I like this sentence, is it possible for something to be rubbish and valuable at the same time?.

Personally, I\'m keen to get some of the old eygyptian religion up and running again, trouble is getting planning permission for the pyramids...

Well, people still seem to be going on about the aliens, some say that this is not what scientology is! And yes I have seen the southpark episode... Some scientologist does not seem to believe in that, i havent seen one video by them, about what scientology is that has included Aliens!

So, if they believe in aliens, why hide that? And yes, the courses are usually really expensive, is it so that people can cash out as much as possible they dont mention the aliens?

But, then, how come this church can call themselves a church??? They believe in Tethan or something like that, L Ron Hubbard was shitty and named the spirit that way, and they seem to believe in reincarnation.... The only reason for this seem to be brought up in the southpark episode about alienspirits that people still have in their \"thetan\", and scientology is a way to clean your thetan.

What i then want to know, in my previous post i posted a video about a guy saying he never heard about xenu. What do they believe... And scientology doesnt seem to like the internet, they hate everything outside the church it seems, a girl died because of their stupidity... They locked a mental girl in a room, trying to do stuff that psychiatrics should do, but apperently they dont believe in psychiatrics.... SO then my question is spawned again, what the hell do they believe?

This group seem more focused in saying things they do not believe rather then what they really believe....

So far i have heard them say bad things about: SP (About everyone not in the church), The law, Hospitals and such, the internet and drugs... So, yeah, and their drugcampaign really sucks... i dont understand that one either, its like people saying heroin!

Scientology = \'religion\' made up by an SF writer to make money. That\'s all you need to know; that\'s all anyone needs to know. Whatever its tenets might be is irrelevant.

You shouldn\'t regret this at all - it is too bad more people don\'t ask critical questions about these sorts of things.

From what I have heard (no I have no inside information) from reputable sources, Scientology is a \"fringe\" religion that promotes the power of the mind to overcome all mental health problems, succeed in life, and even more fantastic claims. They therefore are anti-psychiatry. Apparently the claims get rather bizarre as you advance through their \"mind over matter\" training. For example, at one stage, they can train you to influence the salinity of your blood with your mind. I kid you not...

It has been proposed that Hubbard was simply trying to come up with a way to milk his self-improvement book Dianetics, so adapted its content into the whole Scientology movement. When it turned out to be a cash cow for him when people really bought into it, it grew into a cultish phenomenon.

It exhibits several features consistent with many cults:

1. only a few \"inner circle\" or higher ups know all of the tenets of the religion (all that wacky alien stuff)
2. critics are denounced aggressively, and members are indoctrinated (read brainwashed) in part by alienating them from friends or family who might try to convince the member that the church (cult) is not a good thing
3. the more money you donate the quicker you attain the inner circle. Celebrities get similar special treatment as they are good advertising for the church (cult). Though I think that Tom Cruise and John Travolta may actually be bad publicity these days...

What I find interesting, already pointed out above, is that other religions often start out in a similar way, and only become mainstream when they abandon some of their stranger practices. Take Mormonism and polygamy, for example.

Hope that helps...

it\'s the hypocrisy and the self-centered attitude of a lot of people in \"religion\" that gives the whole theological aspect a bad rep. it\'s not just during our time, but even back in the old days itself. i think some of you know what happened with christianity back then...
