This was one of three mini's in a pack from GW. I really, really liked all three mini's, and this one is maybe my new fave from GW of all time. I love it! And a good deal at 23$ CDN for three well sculpted mini's. So how about that, someone said something nice about GW? WOW!

Anyway, I'm proud of this guy, but always, ALWAYS lookin' to get better. Fire away please!

Hello scott.

Well pretty good painting... but... I think that you could add some highlights in the face. The uniform is quite flat to, in my opinion. MOre hightligh on the shoulder and folds. To set a focus on the face It is quite easy trick to paint the lower parts of the uniform a little bit darker, than the upper part. This way, the mini does not have a real "eyecatcher".

I like the base... far better than mine... *sigh*

It is a 8 for me.

Greetings, Taggi

Very nice guy. I think the skin could be highlighted a bit more and some areas of the uniform could be too.

Nice work Scott :good: You're churning them out now! Have you found the extra time spent on the Kingdom Death mini helpful for approaching newer pieces more confidently?

I'd like to see a little more age to the face colouring, especially since he's gone grey. Though if his hair were darker & just receding a bit I think it would work as is. I mention this purely because it cropped up in one of the recent White Dwarf face painting articles, hang on... #356 (Aug '09), slightly greyer rather than warm tones with fine wrinkle lines added is the jist of it. Can't find it on GWs site, it's bound to be hidden there somewhere I'm sure, this will have to do for now...

...if it looks useful I'm sure you can dig it out for yourself.

Not that I think you've made this guy look absurdly young but for a painter who's always looking to stretch himself I thought it might be of interest :) You can always say that a man of that status has a good diet & regular facials :D

If there were a way you could come up with to make the hair on his forehead look a little thinner it'd be cunning too. The angled silver disc on the base is a touch bright for my taste, knock it back a bit, thin single coat of Badab Black should do the trick.

I agree that it's a nice character figure.

Cheers, B.

PS Scott, image only shared for 24 hours, let me know if it's gone too soon!

Thanks guys!

Great tips. I agree With you Tagamoga. I did work the highlights all the way up to VMC Ivory but obviously just the single brushstroke here and there won't cut it. Got to add more of a concentration on those highlights! Thanks for spotting and commenting. And I'll take an 8 anyday!

BPI-NIce one! I agree with what you sau and super thanks for finding that article. I have that issue around here, I'll go find it. Mike/Dragonsreach reccomended me the same idea a while ago but I don't think I was ready for it then. Maybe I can give it a shot now. TY!

Freak-Much appreciated amigo!

Cheelfy-Appreciate the comment. Like I said I gotta concentrate more on the highlights!

TY gang!

looks good man...
definitely could be pushed further, but would suit someone's table just fine as is...

not a fan of the base though...
needs more shading on the metals...

by the way, he's called the Officer of the Fleet...
forces the opponent to take -1 from his reserve rolls...

your getting there, bro...

cheers
