I am about to try painting up a few spare marines I have.

Just wanted to know if any of you have any tips/ methods for painting imperial fists.

I will post up a picture after I get a couple done. Quite new to painting so don\'t expect to much.

Depends if you want them dirty or clean etc. The foundation yellows have excellent coverage. Just remember to dilute a bit with water as they can go on rather thick.

Are you doing an army or just single miniatures?

I think I am going to go for a clean look rather than dirty. I am not planing on doing an army as I have no one to play against. Just a painter really.

Okay some tips then.

When using foundationpaint you can use them over black primer but in this case I would still recommend a white or grey primer.

Colour ideas (GW colours):

Over black primer:
Basecolour: tausepth ochre
Shading: outline areas, like under plates and stuff with a deep brown or mix black into the tausepth ocre.
1st higlight: fix any mistakes with tausepth ochre and then proceed to go over the plates with iyanden darksun, leave some ochre showing in the shadows ( parts of plates facing downwards etc.) dilute the paint 1:4 approximately. If transitions become to harsh mix midtones with tausepth ochre + iyanden darksun
2nd: highlight: mix white or bleached bone (I\'d use Vallejo model colour ivory) + white into the iyanden darksun and concentrate the highlights on edges facing upwards. Try pure white on some hard edges. Not totally correct way of displaying light but a very good start.

Over white or grey primer:
Basecolour: Iyanden darksun
Shading step: tausepth ochre well diluted, outline plates and wash (dilute more heavily) areas facing down. Mix in black or deep brown for the deepest shadows
Highlights: just like above.

Other tips, Use good brushes and well diluted paint. When painting edges of plates use the side of your brush and wipe most of the paint away so it doesn\'t overflood. Almost like drybrushing but don\'t let the paint dry in the brush. A general tip is to never overload your brush with water or paint. Don\'t be afraid to redo mistakes and mix new midtones to smooth out transitions between the different shades of paint. Lastly, read all the articles you can find. :)

Here is Lysander tutorial for you using mainly Vallejo paint.

Post wips in the wip forum and hopefully you\'ll get some better tips. :)

iv got a good tip if you want to paint them in BRIGHT yellow.....i was working on Imperial Fists a short while ago and a yellow colour scheme for my high elves and what i did was this....Basecoat all yellow parts with GW Foundation Paint Macharius Solar Orange, then paint on thin layers of Sunburst Yellow. Finally added Sunburts Yellow mixed with a small amount of Bad Moon yellow for highlights....

to get a lot done quickly paint over white and do a mix with tausept ochre Macharius solar orange a touch of yellow ink and some clean water roughly 2:1:1:6
apply straight over the white and it will be ready for just a couple of highlights and shades here allowing you to concentrate on the other bits...just depends really how many your doing and how fast you want em ready

I have a very quick and easy way to Paint Imperial Fists.

Mix a good amount of Yellow Ink Into chestnut ink and put the whole mixture in an empty paint pot (50p from GW).

Then white primer all your models and wash over the ink mix. The yellow sticks to the plates while the darker chestnut yellow falls into the creases, its a real nice look. Then simply high light the rest using Sunburst yellow, bad moon yellow, then mix a little skull white into the badmoon

Hope this helps
