Imperial Guard concrete building (made from card & paper)

Hi all,
Being a lazy model maker I love to use card and paper which doesn\'t need special tools and is great if you\'re like me doing this hobby in your bedroom. I wanted to post a log as I went but I got carried away and built the whole thing in one go.

First I sketched out an idea such as this Imperial Guard computer base when I was on holiday.

Then I bought some card and drew, cut out and scored a simple net (this is when I got back from holiday).

For the dome I cut in half one of those clothes washing balls you put into the washing machine.
For the base, I cut out a perspex base as I wanted it to sit well on a table top. But you can use thick card. I then stuck the whole thing together with PVA glue.

I sprayed it with Rough Coat and dry brushed it all Bestial Brown, Codex Grey, Fortress Grey and lastly Skull White.

I made a door on PhotoShop, printed it and stuck it on.

The two junctions coming from the dome were old sprues and I printed out tiny warning labels and stuck them on.

The whole thing cost me £5 (not including paint). Card and paper is a fun, quick and cheap way to let your imagination run wild and if done right can look great next to production models while wargaming.

nice work there. have you ever tried polystyrene packaging inserts? they can be in really great shapes and, of course, are free!

Cheers,

It\'s pretty solid. Even to touch it\'s hard to tell if it\'s card or plastic. The main building was made from mounting card which is around 3mm thick.

I\'m currently in the process of making an Imperial Guard barracks from a Bisto container (gravy container). Watch this space.

Nice job. Printing the door was a great idea.

I once thought the plastic domes inside the large-sized holiday \"Kinder Eggs\" would make great Tatooine-style buildings. But alas, I don\'t have any use for scenery... and my GF would kill me if tiny buildings started filling our apartment :(

:lolHa,ha...Yeah, I know how you feel. My GF has already warned me about cluttering up the place with Wargaming stuff. Hence I design my terrain to be small enough to store away under the bed. Nothing is bigger than a A5 sheet of paper. :idea
