I hate to be a stickler, but the feel no pain special rule states that models do not get a FNP roll against \"weapons that inflict instant death or CLOSE COMBAT weapons that ignore armor saves.\" Ranged weapons can inflict instant death by having a Strength 2x or more than the target\'s toughness. CC weapons can ignore armor saves. A ranged weapon ignoring armor saves means nothing for FNP.
The reason I bring this up is that Plasma weapons are strength 7 - not enough to inflict instant death on a space marine, even though they do usually punch through their armor. To inflict instant death on a FNP Space Marine you need S8 or higher weapons: melta weapons, krak missiles, lascannons or most ordnance weapons.
Actually, my rulebook says this about FNP, beyond Strength=2xToughness (translating from the German rulebook here): \"...Also, it (the rule FNP) doesn not work against Close Combat Weapons that allow no Armour Save (e.g. Power Fists, Power Weapons, Dreadnought CCW), as well as hits that allow no Armour Save, like Rending attacks rolling 6es, Danger of the Warp (psyker fumble thingy), botched Dangerous Terrain tests,
weapons with AP 1 or 2 etc.\"
So, plasma would actually work rather well. Wounds on 2s, no Armour Save, and thus no FNP.
