In all seriousness

Why is it (and this is after reading several discussions on other boards) that there seems to be some sort of connection that goes like this - I'm gonna play Chaos - Chaos = Nazi's and the KKK?

I get the Chaos = Evil, and Nazi's/KKK = Evil, but seriously has anyone who made this leap looked at how ordered and heirarchial both of those groups were and are?

Sadly Lloyd it's a mindset that affects people without an in-depth knowledge of the darker days of the last century.
People of my generation who were born and grew up seeing the remains of WW2 damage and who's parents/grandparents were involved in that conflict generally have more of a concept of how close we came in the UK to being invaded, and as such wouldn't consider such a linking.

In some cases the desire to portray a fictional army as following the trends of the two organisations you've mentioned is simply a "rebellion" as most teenagers do at some point, in some cases it is just "Asshatedness" from people who want to make others squirm and spoil pleasure. A similar mentality to those people who delight in Sniping in the galleries.

IDK Mike, I think a lot of it has to do with just looking at the surface - and associating evil with evil. I don't think most of em look any deeper than that.

Hmmmm... interesting. I hadn't seen this (though I don't poke around the other boards too much). Fantasy Chaos armies always seemed barbarian to me. As for the futuristic stuff... I don't know, but I never got a nazi/kkk vibe from them. If the fluff for a faction was high on xenophobia in addition to being evil... then yeah, I suppose you could make that connection. I also tend to associate nazi's with order (the opposite of chaos in the disorder sense of the word). Aside from all of them being considered evil, I don't see much else in common.

Was thinking more the 40k side of things - but yeah, seems like every I turn around someone is talking about their Nazi themed Chaos army with KKK cultists.

You want to really throw them for a loop? Tell them the Marines are space nazis. Perfect human specimens, very structured, xenophobic and elitist, regularly commit mass genocide.

I've gotta agree with Trystan here. If anything, the Space Marines seem to have more in common with the nazis. Wow, wonder how showing up with space marine army painted up in third reich colors and swastika symbols would go over at your local GW store?

Usually gets you requested to leave, fast. (Sometimes with instructions not to come back!)
GW managers are, or were, primed to pick up on this as GW rigourously (and justifiably) do not want to have any of their products branded or associated with having a Nazi sympathy.
IIRC (Tommie Soule might be able to confirm) a Northwest UK GW staffer was dismissed for doing this a few years ago painting up his shop army in SS regalia.

Yeah, the only thing surprising there is someone actually tried it.

Yeah, I don't recall ever coming across the Nazi=chaos connection. Chaos has always seemed to be an "anything goes, as long as it isn't organized" thing to me.

But, that's one of the things that I've always found curious about 40k. Tau are very socialist, marines always elitist, Eldar are aristocratic, orks are opportunists, IG seem to be commoners, and tyranids just animalistic. The "evil" flip sides to those (most of them at least) are simply the same but chaotic. Where the world did the capitalists go?!?

Oh wait. That would be GW itself! *chortle* Guess it'd be silly to have an army of polo shirted merchants supplying equipment to everybody on both sides.
