In London this weekend

Urban freeflow is on in London this weekend. Wish I could go see it- I love watching freerunning (although it does always forcibly remind me that we\'re not that far down the evolutionary tree from monkeys! lol). I wonder how long before it becomes an olympic sport? After all, a lot of the moves are very reminicent of gymnastics (or identical).

free running is basically where you go out running in the streets pulling of stunts like this

my mate thought it would be a good idea to try it but he did the really hard stuff and broke his arm i couldnt stoplaughing ( after he came out of hospital )

Ok, this may sound stupid but I WANT TO DO THAT! It looks like sooooo much fun!

Of course with my knees and all the likelyhood of me jumping off a 2 story building, landing and doing a roll and living to tell about it is about the same as a snowball\'s chance in hell but it still looks like great fun! :flip::bouncy::flip:

Yeah, I remember seeing something about it on TV about four years ago, and they interviewed a group of French guys because that\'s where it is supposed to have started (afaik). I\'d love to try it, but I\'m with lizcam on this one- not with *these* knees! lol

as a lifelong skateboarder, i\'ve bounced off the concrete more times than i\'d care to remember, but these guys are nuts...
somehow i\'m more comfortable droppin\' in on a 20 foot wave than i am jumpin\' rooftops and stairwells...
funny how what a guy does everyday doesn\'t seem crazy, but watchin\' someone do a different kind of extreme sport seems nuts...for example, a skateboard and a halfpipe seems normal to me, but a guy droppin\' in on a bmx seems crazy to me...

mad props to these free runners for sure...personally, i only run when the cops are after me:twisted:...

Haven\'t seen the vids, but I guess you all talk about Le Parcour.
Origins are in the suburbs of Paris by David Belle. The people doing it are called Traceur.
There are plenty of vids on youtube. Always reminds me of ninja.

For myself I\'m done with kissing pavement and tasting blood in my teenage years as skateboarder. If I were younger I definitely would be doing Le Parcour.

there is a cool french post-apocalyptic movie, i believe it\'s called \"barrio 13\" in english...one of the original freerunners is in it, and does some sick leaps, especially one where the guy slides through the little window over a door...it\'s a space about 1 foot high, by 2 1/2 feet wide...
watchin\' the guy do it in real time on the special features was cool...
the black dude in the last james bond movie did some sick free runnin\' too...the special features on that bit were way cool...

@jike: i hear ya bro...it\'s funny how the extreme things we did as kids don\'t even qualify as hardcore today...
i\'m more into cruisin\' on the 4 foot skateboard these days...just rollin\', and smilin\' at the ladies...not very extreme, but still loads of fun...

cheers

There was a program done yonks ago called jump london...

The idea of free running and parkour is nice but it\'s all a bit contrived as wat you see on film and in shows is seriously rehearsed again and again and again and once the flashy stuff is over, they spend 2 weeks recovering.

The real art is in making it look effortless while being caused pain... like any form of gymnastic activity I guess.
