In the market for a new camera

Ok well not a new one but just a camera in general. My Dads going to use it as well and wants it be an SLR, so I\'m just wanting to pick some peoples brains on what and where. I\'m in the U.k so that might influence the where, cheers in advance :D

Always been a fan of Nikon (hence buying a D50). If you can still get the D50, which is a great camera I\'d highly recommend it. Failing that, D40 (although, I seem to remember it being more limited with the lenses you can use). If you have the budget a D80.

I can\'t comment about Canon, having never used one but I did agonise for ages over Nikon v Canon.

Macro lenses - I bought a Tamron 90mm, which is a true 1:1 macro lens.... it\'s also highly regarded as a portrait lens if that\'s your bag. There\'s also the Sigma 105mm, which again is supposed to be excellent.

I\'m kinda dumb when it comes to cameras and all the techno stuff. So reading this confused me for about half an hour but cheers for the info any way!!

Canon vs Nikon is almost as boring and pointless as NMM vs Metallics.

Canon are cheaper and maintain superb quality. End of story for me :)

Both great brands. Oddly the reason I went for the Nikon was because it was slightly cheaper ??? If hadn\'t have done, it would have been the camera you mentioned Scott.

The D40 doesn\'t have the auto focus thing on the body so you have to buy specific lenses for it, although, pretty much every review I\'ve seen of the D40x has been very good. A digital slr magazine had it as the best entry level slr (under£500). I\'m still saving up for a camera myself, though any slr is out of my budget.
