Indiana Jones

Well, let me start by saying I enjoyed it. I felt it didnt have the scope of the first three, in all likelyhood because we start out in the US. The characters don\'t really develop much, but you are familiar with the important ones. The one thing it did do is sort of bring a closure/passing of the torch feeling to the series. Go see it and judge for yourselves.

Passing of the torch?

I really don\'t want to know about what goes on it, because I can\'t go to the movies around here, kids are too noisy, but I hope that Shia fool doesn\'t replace Ford in some future installments based on the Indy films.

!!!

just got back from it. Loved it.

If you know/understand where Indy idea/concept comes from when Lucas created the character, you will like this as a logical progression.

Lucas and Spielberg themselves said in Vanity Fair magazine I believe it was, tha they expect to lose half the fan base ...

I thought it was great.

Overall, I liked it more than Temple and Crusade (but not as much as Raiders). The only thing I didn\'t like was the return of a specific female character :p

I agree with most of the above statements.

I was sad to hear that Sean Connery wouldn\'t make an appearance (Holy Grail, eternal life, etc.) and I missed John Rhys Davies and some of the other supporting actors from the previous films as well.

Regarding what\'s actually in the movie? I thought it was pretty awesome. The sci fi stuff was a little over the top, but it was handled well and wasn\'t too much of a stretch given the religious/paranormal themes of the previous movies.

As always with the newer George Lucas you wish there was a little less CGI involved, but compared to Star Wars the CGI was used very sparingly.

I\'d say around 3.5-4.0 stars is about right for this movie. It\'s not an instant classic or anything, but it\'s a solid film and way better than Hollywood average.

Iron Man is still my favorite movie of the year :p

My 7 and 5 year olds have been begging to be taken to the new Indiana Jones movie for weeks now, hopefully I\'ll get to take them this weekend.

Just saw Iron Man on Wednesday, if we take the kids to the movies this weekend it will be the first time in over 7 years my wife and I have gotten to a movie twice in the same month. Actually I think since our first kid was born the best we\'ve managed is three movies in a year, and we used to go to the theater every other week or so in the pre-kid days.

At least my kids don\'t want to see Speed Racer. :drunk:

Good, but not the best

I\'ve been salivating to see this movie ever since I heard it was in pre-production, and that was a few years ago. It took longer to get to the screen because (as I read somewhere) Ford had to approve the vehicle as being worthy of the Indiana-franchise ,... not just Lucas. Which makes sense, since w/o Ford, you\'ve got no Indiana.

I saw the movie last night and liked it so much I plan to see it again with my son and will certainly buy the dvd when released (and see it again). So, obviously, I liked it.

Having said that, while good, it was not the same caliber as the original Raiders...the best of the series. I\'d rank it about the same as Temple of Doom, but not as good as Last Crusade (which was top notch).

This is all plot-speaking of course, since the special effects can\'t be picked at. The Lucas/Spieilberg combo continue to churn out \'industrial magic\' of the highest degree.

Some of the dialog intended to be comical was forced, which was a distraction. The giddy school girl demeanor of Marion towards Indy was \"lame\" (that\'s a legal term). And in a couple shots the filmmakers broke the magic when briefly the audience can see that it\'s Ford\'s stunt double on the screen, not Ford. (That\'s just inexcusable in today\'s era of digital editing capabilities).

One thing truly disturbed me, ....until I got home: Ford has aged, has wrinkles, and greying hair. Karen Allen shows her age as well. She\'s aged, has wrinkles, probably a good 30 pounds heavier, and has old-lady jowls. ....These things really bothered me until I looked in the mirror afterwards. Holy crap. We\'ve all aged right along side. And time has been a lot kinder to Ms. Allen than to me. Wow. :)

Final 2 observations:

1. Shia would be a great new Indy for the younger generation and I wouldn\'t be surprised to see a tv series in that direction given the video clue we got.

2. John Hurt (who is about my age) is a damn sexy looking man when he\'s cleaned up.

I give Indy and the Crystal Skull 4 popcorn puffs out of 5.

I\'ll wait until it comes out on DVD, I don\'t have much hope for it being a good movie.

Harrison Ford is now about 66 years old which is ridiculously old for an action role; back in the 50\'s/60\'s/70\'s any actor over 40 was considered a senior citizen, and they talk about age discrimination today? It\'s incredible that kids today will accept an old man as an action hero.

Raiders was brilliant - 10 out of 10, Temple Of Doom was let down by cheesiness and poor SFX - 6 out of 10, Last Crusade was perhaps a little better and I\'d give it 7 out of 10 but that was a LONG time ago.

As for Iron Man I read people commenting that it\'s \"a great movie but not as good as Spiderman\", like Spiderman was a good movie?

I watched all three of the Spiderman movies but they were disappointing with lots of yak and not enough action (I loved the scooter scene tho) so Iron Man will probably be another wasted mediocre movie.

OK, Mr/Ms Depressing Pants... :drunk:

65 isn\'t exactly old anymore. In fact I know many 65 year olds in better shape than most 25 year olds.

Alas you havn\'t seen Iron Man so pointing out that Robert Downy Jr. is 43 might be a touch lost there (and BTW, same birthday as me according to IMDB, just 6 years older).

 my sister went to see the film last night, she said for a fluff movie it was ok, not the worst or the best....... note: fluff means a none thinking movie

as she hasn\'t gone to the movies in a long time.... the $10.00 a ticket did cause her heart to stop beating for a minute, then toss in the cost of small popcorn & soda

Harrison Ford was always a fantastic actor but it\'s about time he bowed it gracefully and made room for some new talent, not that they will ever find a new Harrison Ford but I\'d like to see a new series of Indiana Jones movies with a younger actor.

It would be nice if there was nother band of brothers type quality spin off series of it, maybe with schia lebouff as his son picking up the ropes, i think he did his role well.

I liked the film, some good parts, some ott parts, i found the end bit quite boring though.

i thought it was great when they showed the ark sticking out of the box. I would say that the sci fi stuff didnt really fit with the indiana jones theme, but not thinking of it as an \"indiana jones\" movie, i think it was pretty good.

sci fi

the sci fi thing fits perfectly with IJ IMHO if you know the background of where Lucas came from with the character, hence why he stated they expect to lose a lot of the fanbase with their change in style...

please enlighten us as i have always enjoyed indianna for the reason that they didnt have crazy scifi ties and just stuck with over the top archaeological finds.
and call me dumb buts thats why i liked the first mummy cause it had similar simplistic archaeological fun. (hope the new mummy is similar)
maybe if the do a adventures of mutt williams-jones jr
then they can get back to the basics
and explain why the elixir of life didnt work on jones and jones jr.

It did work, although briefly.

The knight in the cave warned them that \"the grail cannot pass beyond the great seal, that is the boundary and the price of immortality\". Once the Grail crossed the seal, the immortality was \"removed\".
