Looking to maybe get into this with a friend, how does it play and feel? I am used to 40K, I am guessing it is massively different?

You really should head over to their official forum. The members there are always very helpful and will be able to explain in detail how it plays. Loads of the members also play 40k, so they will be able to compare it, too.
