As lots of people, I never vote for my minis...

Concerning the conversion aspect, it certainly plays a great part of the note given. Concerning the notes I give, the conversion itself is worth 1 or 2 points...
I don\'t think I\'d give a 10 for painting (would it be the best...)

Group minis and dioramas

I think dioramas and/or groups of minis might get lower votes due to the presentation of the photo. Any picture taken to show more than one or two minis, is necessarily less detailed than a picture taken to showcase a single model. On a diorama, posting inserts of close ups of the several component minis might alleviate this bias, but most pictures of squads tend to rate lower because, in that case the weakest mini sets the tone for the rest of the models, (and pics of space marines just standing there don\'t look as interesting as, say nine nazgûl charging across a river)

This is nothing personal against packrep, I think he has a neat idea of showing painting areas, could be amusing. But if this had a higher rating than an actual painted miniature of mine I would be a bit perturbed. It had a 6.3 when I saw it (and yes that is higher than some of mine and alot of miniatures on this site) - am I being too uptight here? Perhaps we could view these kind of things without voting on them?

You know,when you go to your account and see that selveral of your minis have all gone down by .1 or .3 ect....what do you guys think about that?

Some people here do do this,for spite,sad but true.

As for me I start my work at what I feel it is really worth,BUT I must say that I personally DO NOT give any mini a score higer than an 8 unless it is also well (I MEAN TIGHT TO) converted,as the score outline on the home page,indicates that you are suposed to consider your votes as if you where a GW or other important dealios judge.

So in my mind no figure anywhere by anyone,will get a 10 unless the artist kicked boo koo butt and covered ALL aspects of the hobby....that means Assembly/pose/baseing/conversions/sculpting (if any)/painting,in that order.....

I just do it that way to be fair to the folks like myself that go all out on a figure....if you look at my junk here,NOT ONE of my works has been \"Just\" painted.

I don`t get gaa gaa over Orc or Space Marine or Fianna #900,095,003....I don`t care if Jen H spent 13 years on the damn blending....\"IF\" I can see mold(flash)lines on the thing,and it is butt stock,with a black plain plastic base,and i can pick out the merge points(where the figure is glued at)....then the thing will get a 7 or mabey an 8 if the blending is done with 30 layers....



Anyhow,sorry to zip out a mini rant,but this is my way of scoreing all work here....

I look at everything done to each figure that I view here.

I have never read the Golden Demon rules, so I am asking for info, but sort of disagreeing with Big Mean Elf (you look like a big guy if that is you in your avatar pic, please don\'t hurt me!)

I don\'t think every figure needs conversion work, so why have a scoring system that penalizes for not having any? Or is that part of the Golden Demon judging standard? I know that converting is part of the hobby, but so is sculpting. This is obviously an exaggeration, but do we then only give top scores to those who have sculpted their own miniatures? I even read someone\'s posting on a forum that they only give scores over 8 if there is freehand work on the miniature. I think this is getting carried away with one\'s own abilities and preferences over what is considered top level by the community as a whole.

Now, I do have to say that if I was judging a contest and there were two miniatures that I thought were \"10\" level and only one had conversion work or freehand work, I would have to give the nod to the one that went that extra mile. But that wouldn\'t in any way lessen the impressiveness of the stock \"only painted\" miniature.

Don\'t get me wrong - I love conversions because they are unique, and I often switch weapons and such myself. And if I saw a miniature that had the painting skill of Jen Haley or Cyril with the converting skill of Big Mean Elf (I am not at all into sci-fi stuff, but you do have some very impressive conversions!) then that would be the ultimate.

i vote on mine depending on how i feel about it.

was it fun to paint?

did i like the end result?

i have so many minis, i feel that would deserve a 2 or something, so i just dont put those on there.

i many vote against myself as my initial vote....cause i cant take someone else work and compare it, cause i only know what i like.

i know many people are better than me, but i grade them on there work, so i cant compare the two.

I somehow don\'t agree that conversion is part and parcel of the ranking criterias at least according to the GD rules (or what I read from the White Dwarf magazine). Basically, they have different categories. No matter how much the conversion, it is the paint, style and presentation that scores the points. Not how much a person converts on a mini unless it adds an additional appeal to it.

I normally hide the score. So that I am basing it on my own intuitions and judgement to give points instead of allowing the existing ranking of the mini to influence me.

However, I still believe that there should be a better scale presented. Eg. .5 in-between.
