Hi there!

New project underway and I'd like some feedback and suggestions.
I'm sculpting a space marine in inquisitor scale for a friend. It's ok underway but I need a few ideas for ornament.
My plan is to sculpt an aquila on his chest. The space marine is going to carry a chainsword, and I'm contemplating making a helmet for it to hold in its right hand.

Colors are going to be in the scheme black, white, green, and blue. My first thought was Alpha Legion, but it has to be a loyalist chapter, so do any of you have suggestions for concrete chapters carrying those colors?

"There are always two, a master and an apprentice" lol Great start if i may be so bold to suggest lengthening the lower leg armour it looks shorter than the thighs from this angle. you might be able to get away with adding putty around the ankle/ boot area. You might have to bring the Gorget/neck guard forwards and down the chest a little too.

A good start. Congratulations. In my humble opinion, in addition to the above, I would like to draw Your attention to the possibly a few thin legs disproportionately compared with the torso.

A little made experiments with your picture...
Increased Shin, has reduced height belly, shifted his feet closer to each other and lifted the hip area.

Thank you my master ;) No, In all seriousness, thanks for the advice Cassar. I've moved the gorget now, and I'll take a look at the legs too.
Thanks to you custom77, others have commented on the girth of the legs too, so I'll see what I can do.

Any suggestions on how to make small studs for the armour?

Heads of small brass brads?

Grandt Line rivet heads? (http://grandtline.com/products/mrr/mrr%20details/augmentables.html scroll down to Lift Rings/Eyebolts and Rivets)

Heads of dress makers pins?

Use the right size drill bit for the stud, drill several holes into a block of wood and use it as a press mold?

I have some hexagon plastic rods that I chop carefully for a more bolt-like appearance. At one point in time I was wondering ig I could poke the ball out of a pen tip and use it to poke half spheres.. That may be a bit trickier- but if you have a tiny ball bearing and you press putty into it and let it harden, you could have a tool that will essentially do the same thing.

Sculpt overall looks good so far, maybe just a bit more sanding here and there, but it is still in the rough stages... so it would.. be.. rough.. :p

I used to do it that way, its ok only very labour intensive. I thought about it and came up with a solution. (a wise man once said always put a lazy person on a tough job, he/she will always find the easiest way to do it).
I now use a concave center punch for the rivets, and i converted old paint brushes of varied widths to do larger rivets bolts etc (remove the bristles that leaves you with the metal tip a little sand paper to clean and smooth the metal and bobs your uncle just apply the milliput to the surface wet the tool press it in, a little wiggle and remove then just take the excess milliput away and theres your rivet, it takes some practice to perfect and you will end up with putty stuck in your tool (lol) but it does work. You will need also a brush and plenty of water to brush over and clean up the rivet and i have found a craft knife to be useful when removing the excess putty. hope this helps. if you want i can post you some pictures of the tools later.
