Inquisitor coteaz NMM (Hopefully)

Not sure how this will turn out as im on a learning curve with NMM

This is gonna be more of a test mini for another im wirking on.

Ive opted for Coteaz because i think his armour will look well in NMM and the body is what ill use on a beast marine conversion in a week or so!

So this is what ill start with:

As im not keen on the big eagle thing, The whole arm had to come off....... And thought id get rid of the hammer while i was at it!

Well after a quick spray he's all ready for a slash of paint!

OK, so some of the paints going on well! the rest of the paint . . . not so well!

Head, collar and neck chain, im happy with. And they are nearly done.

The rest of the armour just isn't cutting it for me!

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Uh...Check the reflections... upward facing plates should reflect the sky, and downward facing the ground. Not that I could do better, I just read all the SENMM tutorials...maybe the photography isn't doing it justice, but the blending from light to dark on the reflections should be darkest at the horizon, and lighter at the forground... so, dark at the middle of the plates, and lighter at the bottom. Looks like it is reversed...

Thanks Gepzo, thought this NMM was gonna be a little easier, but turns out its right tricky!

Done a little more work on the upper armour and robes, i think its looking better, but i know its not great!

Think its back to true mettalics after this one!

Looks pretty good. I think the armor could some lighter highlights. SENMM is pretty reflective and lighter highlights help create the illusion. Arjay has some nice NMM like what you are trying to achieve. Definitely worth checking out for reference.

SENMM chrome effect is really tricky to get right, you have to think through every single object what is facing sky and what is facing earth. for example, the original hammer arm lower arm-plate the sky earth should be upside down as the sky hits the lowest point (see awesome PS image ) also, you need thinner paint and to practisepractisepractise smooth blendings and add contrast to make this believable.

Skel does know his onions, nice start looks fiddly and complicated can think of no better person to give you tips...oh wait theres also matt he's good at the old nmm too good luck with it hope the beady eye im going to be keeping on this project isnt blinded by the shine coming from the Nmm.:sinister:

This is definately the longest ive ever spent on painting one mini!

Definitely hit up Elly or Matt, they are two of the best NMMers you will find in the forums. But Skell is an awesome painter, so heed his advice. I can't really give any help with NMM, so I won't, but I do applaud your willingness to try a new/advanced technique, and pushing your boundaries. Takes guts to do that, and then post it for the world to see.

Your doing something similar to me hete's mine.

I'll agree with an above post about the hammer arm but it didn't look right on the model.

Your doing a good job though and we both need to lighten our colours.

Not to be a pain in the butt, but.. does anyone wear metallic armor on planets other than those with blue skies and barren brown rock?

Johnny889, I dig the effort, very well done for a 1st! The double bolters are awesome. There's not much question about what he wants to do when he walks into a room full of emperor-hating-heretics.
