Insomnia

Cake or Death?
Thanks folks. It was finally some caramel toffee crunch ice cream that crashed me out.

I'm ending long-term use of psych meds, and my body is still getting used to the idea that somethin isn't going to put it to sleep every night.

@Trevor - how well does Melatonin work? I heard something about it causing nightmares, but I'm almost to the point where I'm okay with that...

I don't think the point is to do physical activity when you can't sleep, but to do it regularly during the week, perhaps 2-4 times per week. That can help preventing insomnia.
I tried that during my final year at uni, when I had terrible insomnia. I'm sorry to say that it didn't work at all for me. You'd think hiking most weekends, plus going to the gym and/or swimming most evenings would have helped, but nope. I was just insomniac and fit. :curse!: Still, different strokes for different folks and all that. Just 'cos it didn't work for me doesn't mean it won't work for someone else.

I recommend a hot drink of some sort. I usually go grab some manner of herbal tea, such as chamomile or fennel. I think it's as much the act of making and drinking something warm and soothing as the content that helps. Maybe cut down on caffeine after midday too. The other piece of advice I have is try not to get stressed about it! Seems logical, but when you haven't slept properly for three or four days, nothing much makes sense anymore and the worst thing you can do is get wound up about it because you'll NEVER get to sleep then!

Good luck, and hang in there. It's miserable, but you'll get through it. :clover:

I believe it is a matter of attitude. I know that I can't do it but I've got several friends that has had that way of life as long as I've known them.

Must try to not make comment about female attractiveness.

Grandmothers (both of them) always swore that Warm Milk an hour before bed was guarenteed to give you a good nights sleep. I might sleep well but can't guarentee that for Fran as warm milk gives me serious sombnamic flatulence. (Probably more information than you wanted to know).:sidefrown::wasntme:

Melatonin is the chemical your body releases to get you to sleep. I never had nightmares when I used it, was great for sorting out jet lag.
