Not to be a troll, but alcohol is the insomniac's bane - it actually impairs your ability to get restful sleep, though you might sleep longer. If you just need the chemical push over the edge that alcohol provides, Benadryl is a lot safer.

Microsoft training manuals.
Can't stay awake trying to read the damn things.

Any of the manuals for a Honeywell Control System - they make Microsofts stuff look exciting in comparison (I know thats hard to believe, but true).
One of my friends was suffering from chronic insomnia so he took a copy of one home for his bedside table. He brought it back in a week, saying he was cured. Seems that his mind would rather sleep through the night than be forced into reading the manual (vol 1 of 46). In that entire week he made it all the way to page 10.....
