Inspiration: Marijn Van Gils - miniatures or art

In another post I mentioned a modeller called Marijn Van Gils, and thought it would be good to share his inspirational work. OK it\'s historical, mostly, but he is really pushing the boundaries in the historical field.

Marijn has won 3 best of Show awards at Euro Militaire and other shows across europe, not bad for someone still under 30. OK, it\'s 54mm, but inspiration non-the less

They all have a lot of character, I think there is alot we can learn from the historical modellers, even if the scale is not the same

As others have said, the third one is just inspired, great idea :D

Very nice models, I especially like the first one.
I\'ve been to Euro Militaire a couple of times as I lived in Folkestone 200yds away from the venue, and there\'s a whole new world of mini\'s in there.

Great stuff
:D

Brilliant!

Story telling is one of the MOST important parts of a miniature diorama or vignette (IMHO!)....this guy is a master of it.

Thanks so much for sharing.

Thanks for then od to us a historical fans. Nice to see someone doing something besides static tanks and or anal uniform renderings \"hung\" on static figures. Great stuff. The little pedestal thief is cool as well.

Wow :wow: Really truly utterly awesome. Thanks for sharing that stuff Rob, inspiring indeed! The thing that made me laugh was that on timeline forums as soon as you reach 200 posts you become \"valued contributor\", and it stays that way forever! Some guys were called \"valued contributor\" with 4500 posts, others at 200 :D I guess they thought people wouldn\'t stick around that long.

Am I missing something or is the 4th of a couple of jews being shipped off to a concentration camp?
I don\'t recognize the hats so I\'m probably wrong.

Still, some absolutely fantastic weathering technique, and if it IS a concentration camp train, utterly heartwrenching.

What Marjin said about the fourth one (titled \"One Way Ticket\"):

\"It is a section of a railcar with two German soldiers, amongst the first to leave to the front in 1914. The atmosphere of that moment was very optimist: both armies thought they would get a quick victory and the war would be over by christmas. Next to the expression of the figures, graffitti on the railcar should express this. But the title hints to their more bitter fate...\"

The nice thing is with Marijn is that he\'s the nicest most unassuming chap you could meet!! Always completely amazed when you say a nice comment about his work.

He did in the past do wonderful big dioramas with tanks and all, but I\'m very glad he\'s moved onto single figures and vignettes.

we\'ll have him around for some time as well.........

and he only works on one piece at a time.....wish I could do that

All amazing and imbued with so much \"life\". The balloonists bailing out is incredible though, since its sense of motion is so credible. I mean look at the way his hat and the headphones from the \"marconi set\" are poised in midair as the guy jumps!

I\'ve seen the Guenica piece in the past and been utterly enthralled by the quality.
All the other pieces are superb, this guy has real talent and genius in his ability to make the pieces tell the story. Even without a description you know what is going on with each vignette.

@Vincegamer; I understand what you are meaning in your question about the 1st World War vignette. I didn\'t pick up on the possible similarity as I recognised the style of uniform from my historical painting days.
