Interior basing

I usually base my figs with sharp sand, grass, Mininatur plants etc. I'm currently painting some figures for Crooked Dice's 7TV (think Austin Powers), and I want to make them look like they're inside, in a lab or underground lair.

I'm also painting up some Victorian steampunk figures, which I need to base so they look like they're in Victorian London.

Any suggestions for basing these?

Cheers

London would be...cobblestones outside, wooden planks inside?

Lab or underground lair could be almost anything. Solid flat floors, concrete flooring, wooden planks, hardwood, marble...or you could go sci-fi/steampunk, where it's metallic, riveted, pipes and cogs and grates, wires and electrical panels, fans, etc.

Your options are pretty wide open.

Check Wyrd's selection of premade bases (can find them in the CMON store). I think there are some that would work for you or at least give you some ideas.

If you want to make your own you can do that too. At Arts and Crafts stores you can often buy packs of balsa wood strips in different sizes. I recently used that to build a wood floor for one of my minis in the gallery. You could take a piece of fabric, felt, whatever and lay if over the wood to make a carpet if you want.

Or you could also mix up some plaster and pour it into a shallow flat container. Let it spread out into a nice thin layer and dry. Then use a ruler and a hobby knife to cut it into tiles and make a floor that way. Or don't cut it into tiles and instead treat it like a concrete floor (maybe carve a crack or two into it). You could also grab some extras for your bases from Hasslefree. I don't think they have any of their basing stuff in the CMON store but they do on their website: http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?product=covers-assortment~hfebm02&category=accessories~etched-brass-%28architectural%29 (that set might be useful)
