Any bleeding is bad. Internal is becuase usually you dont know its happening till its serious. If your friend is in hospital then he should be OK.

Hope your friend is OK.

Internal Bleeding is extremely bad.
As there is no visible evidence then the bleeding can continue unchecked until the body goes into complete shock. After that, Chances of Recovery are very slim.
Symptoms will vary due to the amount of bleeding and the organ involved.
But expect Extreme tiredness, Dizzyness, lack of concentration, possibly high thirst without dehydration, tenderness arount the area where the bleeding is occuring (possible) and other effects.
It\'s more common to find internal bleeding in the abdominal region due to the lack of skeletal protection, but it can occur in the limbs from damaged muscles, usually this becomes more obvious with skin colour changes.

If he\'s in the hospital his chances are good, since, as have been mentioned, the biggest danger comes from not knowing about the bleeding. But, then it all depends on what it is that is damaged and how well that can be treated. Some organs are more difficult to cope with, regarding internal bleeding, than others. Hopefully, though, he\'ll be alright!

Whether the bleeding is bad depends on a number of factors:

* First of - the size of the actual rupture - if there are a lot of wounds or a large tear, then this will mean a lot of blood is being lost.

* The actually area ruptured - for those unaware, bruises are a form of internal bleeding - albeit minor capillaries just beneath the skin - if larger vessels are damaged, these carry more blood.

* Due to the bleeding being internal, the blood will not have the advantage of air contact to help with it\'s natural defence - coagulation - however these injuries WILL eventually repair themselves - but they may need help via drugs and/or surgery if the bleeding is very heavy.

That\'s all I can think of off the top of my head - but I hope your friend is ok - if it\'s not too personal - how were the injurise caused?

I\'m guessing an Road Traffic Incident...?

Whoa...
i know first hand not only how serious it is but how hard it is to detect. Luckily for me I used to bleed from varicose veins in my stomach so at least I knew I was in trouble when I threw up blood. ( haha, I say \"lucky\" but you know what i mean:)).
I\'m guessing your friend was taken to hospital right after the fight? If thats the case, they would have done thourough x-rays and scans so he/she\'ll be just fine.
It could have been another matter completely if your friend wasn\'t seen so soon. It\'s possible that the bleed may re-occur if theres any kind of trauma to the area ( even somehing like lifting an object) so make sure your buddy takes it easy o.k?!;)
All in all I hope your freind makes a good recovery and your all well. I\'m sure you\'ll all take good care of them when they\'re discharged:)
