Iron Man WiP - Help and hints appreciated

Hey people :)

I've been painting for a while now, and decided it's time to do something really challenging again. Since my girlfriend is quite the comic nerd and especially loves Iron Man, I acquired the awesome Knightmodels sculpt which I want to give her for christmas (it's obviously gonna be a delayed christmas present but whatever :D)
Anyway. I started painting the mini some days ago, and would like to get some feedback and tips while I'm painting. I got a lot of inspiration from this awesome contribution, but of course I still have a long way to go until I reach that level

This is the current state. I painted the legs (though I'm not quite happy yet), and sketched the extreme highlights on the back and sides.

Any tips and help is much appreciated!

Cheers, Christoph

Looks like you are off to a good start. This should be a really cool gift!

The painter wrote up a nice tutorial for the red and the gold on his facebook page, just check the text under the image to find it.

Thanks a lot for that link, that's gonna help me alot, especially with the gold! :)

I also glazed the leg parts with a warmer red to get smoother transitions to the highlights and more of an "Iron Man Red" as my girlfriend put it (she's monitoring the progress closely^^). I'll put up some pictures later!

I was a bit busy over the last few days, but I still got something done :) I blended in a warmer red and tried to get a better transition to the highlights. Overall I'm quite happy with the improvements.

Any comments appreciated :)

Yes I'm not being nasty but Please don't use Direct Upload again.
I've just been bombarded by over 20 pop up adverts while trying to look at the pictures.

As to the painting, I've read somewhere that using Flesh tones to mix into the red makes for more subtler tones.

Oh, I'm terribly sorry, I guess I never noticed due to my adblocker, I'll find a better hoster next time!

The addition of flesh tones seems an excellent idea, I will give it a try today, thanks a lot :)

You can use this site to host your pictures. It's worked great for me.

He's looking good. You might want to soften the edges of those extreme highlights a bit, without a little blending they look almost like paint chips.

Hey there! :)
Been rather busy and a bit afraid to start with the NMM gold, as it's the first time I paint a larger area in NMM. I'd very much like some feedback, as I'm still unfamiliar with the technique! I'm quite happy with the result, but there certainly is a lot of room for improvement. I also tried to improve my photographing

Cheers and thanks, Christoph

I would be pretty happy with that, if you wanted to go further you could mix up a dark brown for some realy dark highlights, and a dot of white like you have on the red armor in the highlighted area.
Nice work

Thanks :)

I finished the other gold areas (except the helmet) to get a better feel for it and tried to go for more contrast this time.
