Irrelevant Discussions

Seriously....
Is it OK to discuss stuff that is totally irrelevant to painting/modelling in this forum? Should people be able to write about absolutely anything? I don´t know how i feel about it but i think that far too many topics are totally arbitrary...
How do you all feel about it?Text

Welcome to the forums! hehehehe, it is a generally known fact that the CMON forums are as off topic as you can possibly get. Yes, we talk and discuss minis and painting, but this place is much more of a community that a place to discuss your latest paint job. most of us just post random weirdness and brainfarts here, and just like if you were sitting in the pub with your mates, will the conversation sometimes be drawn into what i like to call the \'Twilight Zone\'....get used to it, we\'re all mad here....lollollollollol

And your point is?................

So there are arbitrary discussions, so what. There are also generous amounts of discussions on Painting, conversions techniques, help, advice and other stuff..

This Site is not a rigidly govern\'d forum and because of that it\'s become more of an extended family. ...........Ok in some cases it\'s more warped and twisted than the Addams, but hey it\'s fun.

This isn\'t some rigid formal club, it\'s a \"Come on in, kick your shoes off, have a pint, and make your self comfortable\" kind of place. :D:cool:

There are 2 other forums here that do discuss minis.

The first one is where we diasect and examine in detail each others\' minis/sculpt ability/paint job/base work/terrain. Cut it and the artist to pieces in the hope that the next one will be better.

The second one is where we talk about \"how\" to make the next one better - blending, NMM, brush brands, paint brands, methods, etc.

Here is were we go to recover from seeing Tammy\'s (or any of a number of great painters here) lastest mini. (I swear she paints in about 250 mm scale and doesn\'t let us know - that or some of you guys are microsurgeons)

Yes, this place is loosely controlled. Don\'t get personal, keep it positive and you will be welcomed and may learn a thing or two about painting.

I for one am glad that there were people here that cared enough about Becca, Cerridwyn and me to post on the hurricane thread. Did it have anything to do with minis? Probably very little other than Becca and I didn\'t get to paint because we were too busy pacing the floor as it came through town.

It is nice to have a forum where mini painters can gather and disscuss irrelevent stuff. I particulary enjoy these forums cos you get to see the \'person behind the painter and mini\' so to speak.

and now for something completely different..

Welcome to your thread getting highjacked... so my fellow Canucks, what about the state of our team. Cutting people they can send to the olympics- who in all other ways qualify, is disgusting. Then the politicians pay themselves to \"promote\" our country by sending themselves instead. There are more Canadian officials than atheletes. Argggh.:flame:

LATE ENTRY EDIT* \"JOINK\"lol

end highjack....

this is the best there is....because not only do people who paint incrediably look at your work and vote and comment on them...you also know what they look like...there favorite food, what they drink, where they work,

its great, and you get to make many friends in the painting world.

And if it were otherwise I\'d be the first to get outta here.
This is the only place I know on the net were nobody orders you around and tells you what\'s allowed and what isn\'t.
And anyone who doesn\'t like that stays away anyway, so this forum practically runs itself.

And if your thread gets hijacked...well, just take revenge whenever the occasion arises! :D

Aww, Becca, I was having fun being non-sequtitor. Seriously back to you new person. This is where people come to get to know one another in the painting world. Some of the coolest and kind folks on the web if not a bit nutty like myself:]
That lady who recued your thread being one of the sweetest right there, for example:D
So check out the other treads if you want to have the knowledge of the ages passed on to you, but most of all- relax and have fun. As the preamble of this tread states- anything not related to minis can fall in this section. However,I even defended Mr. Yao\'s right to expression, and I would defend your concern for all of our mental health.
Welcome newbie.

Because this place is popular, people come here often and there is normally always one of the \'regulars\' around. The \'rules\' are posted above and as long as people stick roughly to them these forums remain a pleasant place to exchange ideas.
As to your original question: The gereral discussion thread is just that....general discussion......

Anything not covered by the other forums; eg. manufacturer choice, price discussions, marriage proposals..

Common sense of course, still applies:D

I think we should only be allowed to discuss miniatures... hold on... that would be really boring!

Has anyone noticed how the pointless threads about fave this and that, what do you look like, or the \'unmentionable\' thread get far more interest than the ones about minis and painting!?

Who determines what is Irrelevant?

Being kind of a close knit community, I like the fact that we can goof off with each other.

And the fact, that we do goof off, and have discussions, helps dispel the stereotype of the mini-painting, D&D, virgin nerds.

Well, except for Becca according to her purity test

Out of all my posts, Only one has ever been used to discuss anything other than \"miniatures\" or \"miniature related\" items, and I went back and deleted that post.

So, I always 100% of the time, have never had an irrelevant discussion on any of these forum boards....

Well after painting for a bit today, Yes I actually did some!, I came back and read this thread again.
D\'oh I missed saying Hello and Welcome to azurmage.
After re-reading her/his original entry I\'ve realised that he/she was asking a question \"Is it OK to post irrelevant threads\".........................

You bet your sweet bippy it is!

That\'s a quote from Rowan & Martin\'s Laugh In 1967-69.

You\'ll have to excuse the manners of an old coffin dodger, gettting forgetful as I get older.........What was I saying.
