I’d be careful about assuming it’s officially out of print just from stores being unable to restock it. If multiple German retailers are getting the same answer from their suppliers, it could also be a temporary distribution or reprint issue.
I’d check the German publisher’s current catalogue first, then ask one of the larger board-game retailers whether the product is listed as “out of print,” “discontinued,” or simply unavailable from the distributor. Those statuses can mean very different things.
If it’s for your niece and you don’t mind a used copy, I’d also check German second-hand board-game groups and marketplaces. For a relatively recent title, I’d personally wait for confirmation before paying a big collector premium.
