Is it me or the new dwarves from 7th suck

Apparently this next 7th ed box is going to be a great deal, you will get tons of models for a very cheap price. But I looked at the box ( they have a preview on the GW website) and the models look like utter crap.

I mean seriously, look at them... it looks like GW made extremely cheap models that look ugly (like some old models, half ass) so that they could mass produce and make money. The warriors don\'t even look like the regular warriors that were just released. Everything looks SO UGLY...

Anyway Id love to see more pics just to confirm what im seeing. Anyone know a site?

Yer, i don\'t like them.
They seem to be of the same quality of that of the models in BoM (Battle of Macragge).
There are two reasons for this in my opinion:
1. They have been made \'cheaply\' so that GW can make more dirty dirty money
2. They are \'beginner\' models for new gamers and are only 1-2 pieces.

I don\'t personally agree. The set is very good as an intro-set for Warhammer and contains a lot of figures. The figures are simpler than \"normal\" releases so that you can get lots of them in the box for a low cost. This is basically \"Battle for McCragge\" in Warhammer Fantasy form.

Since WFB requires more models than 40k, the figures are designed accordingly to give you a higher quantity for an intro price.

I think it all makes pretty good sense and the photos I\'ve seen so far aren\'t too shabby at all.

I agree with Jarrett. As a starter set it is great. They have gone for including lots of simpler models rather than fewer, multi-part ones. Bear in mind that this is a starter set, so is generally aimed at younger gamers and not experienced collectors/gamers etc. Having said that, I like the troll a lot

Ok but this doesn\'t change the fact that for the price we pay for plastic kits we coyuld get somethin more - like better quality plastic. This recent production process also adds to my frustration about the minis of the mentioned company It looks weak , and kinda transparent :/
I heard from a trustworthy person that it\'s because they want to cut on the production costs and they use 1 cast to do 2 sprues - 1 is in normal position , the second is upside down , and the gravity causes the plastic to look weird.

If you look at this new plastic kit it looks weird , and paying circa 30$ for 10 minis is like 100:1 about the production process

In my opinion the whole game of Warhammer and 40K is aimed at younger gamers. Don\'t know how it is with the english White Dwarf but reading the German one you feel like it\'s written for twelve year olds. They don\'t care about real quality anyway, as long as the minis have huge teeth and over-sized weapons.

Keep in mind who their true target audience is. They are trying to attract new people who generally dont find it terribly amusing to try to put a 3d jigsaw together then paint the picture on it themselves. They made it easier to assemble and rank up with the new models.

I miss the ability to mix and match a lot of the sets together, and the hands by the side look gets to me sometimes, but overal it makes them easier to game with.


And again, it\'s a hobby. Your still paying less than for RC cars, model trains, fishing, boating, and Baseball even (My brother plays in college and his gear and misc. baseball costs make my upkeep look like a drop in the bucket.)

I think the dwarves are great! True, some may be pretty static, but they are very customisable. The sculpts are very clean, and the paintjobs are lovely too. Has anyone noticed how many of those dwarf lords people have been painting and putting on eBay? However, I think the new night goblins are very inferior.

The new dwarf lords are fine, those are 6th ed dwarves. I am talking about those dwarfs that will be in the new starter box set. They are brutal. They look old and horribe... if you want to make crap models then dont make any.

GW is so bent on making insane amounts of money that they sell their models for insane prices and the quality is deteriorating ( spelling sorry ) .

Anyway I usre as hell wont buy that box set!

I\'m still not seeing what your issue with them is though, \"sucks\" \"old\" and \"horrible\" are great adjectives for when your trying to say something but they dont give a clue as to what your trying to say.

I really dont think that their quality is deteriorating at all. Their rank and file box sets have never been as great looking as their charicter and metal sets because the metal ones are supposed to be the center peices of the army. As to the new rank and file dwarves, I think they look great
Once again, I\'m not really sure what your trying to say about them.

I guess I\'m just not seeing the point here and I may need to check my prescription again, but I dont see any clear cut problems with them.

Edit: Ah, I see, you dont like the single-peice model look. Well, the previous starter boxed set didn\'t look much better, and they were an absolute pain to get the Orcs to rank up. Above all, remember, starter sets are just that, starter sets. They are ment for new players so that they can stick the guys on the bases, toss some paint on them, and play a few games before expanding their armies. They dont want new players to be too confounded with too many multi-part models that can get a little tricky to paint sometimes if you pose them before painting them.

Basicly, if you\'ve been in the hobby long enough to be able to even state that their quality is going down, this set is not meant for you.

Ok, so you wouldn\'t want to enter them into GD, but they\'re pretty impressive for 1/2 piece models, and since its for gaming you\'re generally looking at them from 3 feet away at least.

Just don\'t spend too long painting them

I\'m confused, what do you mean by 2 sprues in one meaning the lower is affected by gravity? These moulds are metal how on earth can they deform? Or do you mean the metal minis?

Does anybody know if this new set with the Dwarfs & Goblins will contain the 7th Edition rulebook?
I\'m sorry if this is a blatently obvious question, I\'ve been out of the hobby for a number of years now and would like to come back in and I happen to have a Dwarf and an Orcs & Goblins army.

I\'m 95% (seems like a good number) that the answer is no. It may however have a small condense rule book that outlines the simpler aspects of game play. I do know that if you buy the current box set (empire and orcs), you get the new rule book free instead of the old one.

Battle for Skull Pass is aimed at newcomers. You go to a store, play an intro game with those miniatures and if you think its cool you can get exactly the same stuff for £50, take it home, put it together with no real difficulty and get gaming in a short space of time.

This is how people get into the hobby. I started with Heroquest bloody ages ago and you know what, the miniatures in that were crap, one part, badly cast plastic jobbies. I didn\'t give a monkeys. To me they were awesome looking goblins, heroic barbarians, brutal fimirs, hulking chaos warriors and an absolutely terrifying balrog. As a newbie I didn\'t have the critical capacity and knowledge of other models to recognise they were poor in comparison.

The fact that you are on a forum asking what is wrong with the models in it shows that you aren\'t the product\'s target audience.

If you prefer the Dwarfs that just came out because they are more versatile and less static buy them instead, and get the hardback rule book instead of the starter box. It has loads of nice source stuff and hobby pages that are aimed at us more experienced and moaning lot!

At the end of the day a full set of rules, two 500 point armies and some extra scenery and stuff for £50 sounds like pretty good value to me, even if the models aren\'t up to showcase standard.
