Bahhh, I don\'t know what the matter with it is, because whenever I try to \"save as\" it only gives me the option of a TIFF format, whatever the hell that is. Thanks for your help, Katie, but I think it\'s pretty much a lost cause. I think I\'ll just host them on someone\'s site, because as is, it\'s pretty annoying.

And the whole resolution thingie...The only resolution field I could find in the Image Size box was under \"Print Size\" I tried turning it down to 72, but it just made the image shrink down to postage stamp size..

Hmm, I think what\'s going on then is you\'re camera is saving it as a TIFF, you probably have it set on \"best picture\". To be honest, unless you are going to print it out, this is a waste (of space, because again, for the web you won\'t be able to see a difference). See if you can find the setting on your camera that will let you change the quality of the picture. Mine is on the menu under settings ---> picture quality and the choices are Best, high, medium, low or something like that. Turn it down a notch, because the highest setting saves it as a TIFF file while the others are jpegs. Even if you put the file on another site because its too big, you\'re going to get a lot of people who skip past your picture if it takes a long time to load (remember, some folks still use dialup), which will cause your picture to be reported and removed.

As for the second thing, changing the resolution, it may look small, but photoshop rarely shows you the full size image, and especially since pictures from digital camera are usually much larger than can fit on the screen, you\'re seeing it at 50% or 33% of actual size. Once you\'ve manipulated it a little bit, go to the view menu, and first \"fit on screen\" then view \"actual pixels\" (those are the settings in 6, not sure if they are called the same thing on 5). I always do this before saving for CMoN so I have an idea what the thing will look like when I upload it. Anyways, hope this helps...

Yes!! I set the camera down to a compressed 1600 resolution and was elated!!.......Until I realized that I could have (all along) changed the pics to jpg\'s. A happy moment, as they are waaay smaller now, even with the highest quality of jpeg selected, but an unhappy moment as well, as it reaffirmed my stupidity......

Check to book thread) so I\'m just going to go with your camera is good but taking pictures of minis is ridiculously hard. Harder than actually painting them in fact.:flip::bouncy:

all my pics are taken with a Nikon Coolpix775: it has 2Mpixels and i think that\'s pretty good for its price

i think it\'s important to get a good light and a steady hand/tripod

i usually take pics in vga size (680x480) with the best quality (Fine- that\'s a 1/4 JPEG compression)

yeah, i know it\'s not a professional cam, but it is enough to show my works!

Don\'t confuse lack of experience with stupidity. Lack of experience can be overcome with <drum roll> experience. Stupidity, on the other hand, cannot be overcome. You\'ve already proven that you can learn from your mistakes and with the help of others, erego you are gaining experience.

Chin up, you\'re in good company. Many of us are still trying to figure out the nuances of digital photography.

Honestly, I just bullshit my way through life, pure stubborness and bull-headedness carrying me through.

Sorry guys, but I\'ve got another question for you. I\'ve got the camera working, and files are down to an acceptable size. However, I\'m having trouble with lighting and contrast. For some reason, even with two halogen lights pointed point blank at the mini, and a true-light overhead, they pics come out waay to dark, and a fair amount of subtle shading is lost. Take, for example the pic at the bottom of the page. Of course, I can\'t show you what the pants should look like, or I wouldn\'t have this problem, but take my word for it, they have a shitload more highlighting and shading in the details. As is, it\'s just the outermost highlights that show. (this pic was taking with the lights angled upward, so the pants should be bright) And another thing, my monitor screen shows it as the perfect brightness, it\'s just when it\'s on my comp...adjusting the brightness and contrast in Photoshop just makes it look washed out.

EDIT: And excuse the shine, please.

Some other useful things: use white cards or paper etc. to reflect the light. Surrond the mini with white paper (roll it up around the mini) or put several cards around it to reflect the light onto the mini. Also, don\'t mess with the brightness/contrast, use the \"levels\" option instead (it should be in the same menu that you find the brightness/contrast option). You can either do autolevels (which is so-so) or play with the little thingies in the levels function. If your paper is white, you expect after using levels that it should be white instead of that greyish color. Hope this helps!

P.S. To cut down on the shinyness, use light diffusers... one way to do this is to put thin tissue paper over the light to make it more diffuse (not directly mind, don\'t want to burn it). I actually got my hands on the stuff real photographers use for this and I place it in between my lamps and the fig.

Sorry for dragging this thread up again, but.....

My 2200 model doesn\'t have alot of adjustable settings, but I did manage to find Exposure. I cranked it up a bit, and was pleased with the results.

This pic was taken at the highest exposure, so I\'m gonna tone it down a little, and add a gradient background.

As you can see, he\'s a whole bunch brighter, and, and less shiny, since I was able to move the lights further away...

I\'m using a similar camera with the same settings. Try using a blue to white gradient, it helps with me
