Is Reality TV the sign of the end of times?

Every season more and more of these crap shows are taking over..

1. Hogan Knows Best (idiot didn\'t even know his wife divorced him)

2. I Love New York (who is the slut again)

3. A Shot at Love With Tila Tequila (who is this slut again)

Theres to many to name and the shows are just getting worse and worse..I don\'t even understand how Survivor is related to reality?

Has mankind reach the end of times? Is reality about to come crashing down on us?

No but we\'re probably not far from global destruction, and survival camps, and the general collapse of civilization as we know it.

Actually you have the writer\'s strike to blame for the latest of these shows. They have to come up with something but there\'s no one around to write them. Having a brother in law who\'s \"in the business\" I can tell you that most of Hollywood is shut down. The actors, producers and executives won\'t cross the picket lines and even if they did there\'s no scripts for them on set. As much as Hollyweird iss a snake pit at least it tries to keep us entertained. Lets hope the strike ends soon!

In the mean time, let me buy you a drink....:beer:

Related to this is the news that Paris Hilton\'s grandfather is apparently so embarrassed by her actions that he\'s decided to donate 97% of his fortune to charity instead of leaving it to her.

Dont know about the others cos i don\'t watch them. Although it is interesting from a people dynamics point of view, I\'ll be honest and say I just enjoy watching it - its legitimate voyeurism!

I\'m with you. I\'ve been saying it for years.
Survivor won\'t be a \'reality\' tv show until they throw these people into the wilds
with nothing but a knife, a bit of rope, and a flare gun.
Last one to shoot a flare into the air (giving up) gets the prize.
Stick a bunch of cameras to their heads or something.

And Paris is independantly rich now, so while the loss of billions from grandpa might
sting a bit, she\'s still got her very own millions.
She may be an idiot, but she\'s not stupid.

Umm no - even a good chunk of the \"reality shows\' have scripted portions - besides, most of the new shows, like the return of American Gladiators, have been in the can for months - the TV execs have actually been saving them for just such an emergency.

And really we only have ourselves to blame for watching these fecking trainwrecks of shows.

reality tv is growing in strength all through the west and the tv companies love it as it\'s cheap to produce compared to normal programs.

it\'s one of the reasons i watch less and less tv as their is more and more shite that gets aired constantly.

It\'s like a Carry On caper! Just glorified camping if you ask me! They would prolly never go for it though...You can\'t catch champaigne and chocolate in the wild :rolleyes:

It\'s entertainment for the majority of folks around and thus a perfectly valid and acceptable trend in TV. Not liking something doesn\'t make it bad.

I do think that the fact news coverage is becoming more and more like reality TV is a slightly worrying trend, but again, it\'s what the public want. I just happen to think news should be about the public interest rather than what interests the public, but that isn\'t a ratings grabber.

And yeah, you can turn the TV off when there\'s nothing decent on too, you don\'t have to just watch the least bad thing!

No end of times here, just the majority liking something others don\'t.

Yes, and that\'s why they are on the tv now. They were \"in the can\". Many of them were taped because of a rumor of the strike ages ago just so the studios would have SOMEthing to air. And with reality shows it\'s more in the editing than in the scripting. So any idiot can write a basic script and the editers can make it look good. One phrase I hear time and again here is \"don\'t piss off your editer\". They can make or break a movie. Or TV show for that matter.

There\'s tons of stuff in the vaults for them to air but not much new is getting made.
