I have just been browsing ebay and came across this...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=45364&item=5928563161&rd=1

Is it rare? Is it unreleased? is it worth 75 GBP? if so .......Who wants my 2, that are gathering dust?

Hmmm 150 for two rare unreleased minis that I dont even have to paint!!! Come on folks its a steal!!!! lol

I have seen it before on EBay as a very poorly painted, single colour per area, unhighlighted piece.
Under no circumstances was I tempted.

I don\'t know if this is a limited edition miniature or not. If the price was lower, I might be tempted.
If it is a LE miniature, the price is no big deal. I saw someone pay $700U.S. + for an OOP Emperor Dragon. It may sound funny, but keep in mind this figure hasn\'t been produced in sixteen or twenty years. So, from a collector point of view, the price might be worth it.
Keep in mind this pearl of wisdom is coming from the guy who is still trying to talk himself into buying the Forge World Dragon.

no really......

Granted it is an old mini, it may have since gone oop but in no way is it a rare/unreleased, I have two of them!! I live in the UK and purchased it from a GW store, I am sure I did?! I dont even like the mini, they are just sitting in my box waiting to be painted along with my whole high elf army. I certainly would not have gone out of my way to get it (either of them). If it was unreleased how on earth did I get it? the only rare stuff I have is the high elf standard bearer from the new army deal (only released with the army deal as far as I am aware) and the special character dwarf thingys on a plinth base from GW.

Rare and unreleased minis are very collectable...

But the people who collect them know their business and wont be fooled for a second. It will be interesting to follow this auction and see if it attracts any bids.

More important, it is not particularly interesting. Sure it\'s a good sculpt and all but anyone with some GS, rudimentary sculpting abilities and any one of half a dozen different GW elf figs could make something very similar. Why would you pay a gajillion dollars for it? \"Valuable\" collectibles are a big scam.

But that applies to all collectibles..

Stamps? Give me a piece of paper and some felt-tips and I am away....

An object\'s value is a function of what people are prepared to pay.

If it\'s a \'scam\' then so are stocks and shares?

Im not looking to sell mine, I just nearly had a heart attack when I saw it. Iwill definitely be keeping an eye on it to see what happens though :D I just wondered if anyone out there knew more about it, like was it limited in number? is it oop? or was it truly never released (although if not I am slightly perplexed as to how I came to own a couple)?

Was it perhaps a \'roadshow\' mini, like darkblade on foot, that can only be purchased when a certain event is taking place in a store

hmmmm

Maybe! I really cant remember when I got the mini. But I dont think so, because I have 2 and I know that I got them at seperate times (at least a year apart). Have we considered the possiblity that it is in fact not a rare or unreleased mini and just an old one? My husband thinks its just a sales ploy, considering the same person is selling casualty bases for warmaster which they believe to be rare/not publically available (despite them currently being sold on the GW site).

the model was part of the latest range of high elves, and as far as i know, it\'s just a normal mage type mini, but i\'m not sure though...

I should have said \"most things sold as valuable collectibles will be in zero demand in a few years and be worth what you paid for them... if you\'re lucky\". At least stocks have a genuine value behind them (\"The holder owns 1/10,000,000 of the physical assets and cash reserve of General Electric Inc.\"), even if that value changes. eBay is not a good way to appraise the true market value of an item at any rate - runaway bidding and so forth.

Hmmm...

I am guessing I am the only person here on CMoN that is also an active member of the Citadel Collecting community... :p

To answer the original question, yes that figure is an \"unreleased\" figure in that it has never been officially released. It can be seen on the Stuff of Legends site under Citadel Rarities:
http://solegends.com/citrare/index.htm
(it\'s the top of the fantasy list on the left side).

Now, that said, for an \"unreleased\" figure, I see it on eBay VERY frequently. So frequently that either a number of them got released somehow or it has been recast a lot (likely both). I would never buy one from eBay without personally knowing the seller, and knowing they got it directly from someone inside GW since I would otherwise doubt the authenticity of it. There are just too many of them offered up for sale to make me trust them. It\'s like buying Centurius out of the blister - it\'s probably a fake.

But unreleased figures, even bad ones if they are from popular lines such as Marines, can sell for a lot of money, even hundreds of dollars.

And that Imperial Dragon you mentioned has been escalating a lot in value over the last few years. $700 would be considered a bargain now. $1500 is commonly accepted as the base price for them these days, though the last one to hit eBay that I know of was the subject of some deep pocketed bidding wars and finished at over $5000!

I remember that...I watched that auction in amazement

Yes its an unreleased mini, basically when the High Elves were released for 6th Ed a couple of years ago, a load of them were sent to stores etc as promotional pieces, used on summer raodshows etc. Staff nabbed some of them but lots were sold in stores as well.
I saw a whole bin full of them when I worked in the MO picking floor, and could have bought some for about 25p each, but thought \"nah, its a crap mini and I dont collect HE anyway\"....

Ooops!

i think £75 is way too much though, especially as its not the finest sculpt. Having said that it has sold on a BIN so someone thinks its worth it.

Madman!

Gelfin, I would sell them one at a time if I were you so as to not \'flood\' the market:D

Cento, I have looked at mine and they have the GW stamp on the base slot as well as the name of the mini and the year, I know I got them from GW. I didnt even know that other games systems or model companies even exsisted until about 2002. So could not have got it from anywhere but GW. So does this mean that mine is authentic?! I cant believe someone paid 75 for it, Tim_F I agree...... Madman!

Gods if mine went for 10 I would be dancing all the way to the bank! Looking at the Citadel rarities I have 3 models worth something to someone, yay! Army box High elf army standard bearer (hate the model) Elf stone thingy (hate that too) and of course the mage in question (hate the two I have) ............ Hey I could be making some money here!!!!!! lol

Madmen with money head my way!!!

what cento means with authentic is that it isn\'t a recast by someone who has made a mould of the actual model, and cast it illegally using inferior materials....

i do find these prices a bit silly, i mean, my collection of unreleased minis consists of models that never even seen the light of day at HQ, let alone hit the production moulds...things like busts, \'naked\' minis(models sculpted without certain pieces of clothing to make the conversion process easier), private projects by designers...i want to paint them all up and show them on my site someday, and sell or trade the doubles, but I never seem to get round to it. :( Hell, i have minis the guys at stuff of legends don\'t even know about...;)

Yeah.....but...

If Gelfin actually bought them from GW they have to be authentic, unless they are in the business of selling recasts themselves, which I doubt.

Gelfin, I would download that guy\'s advert/pictures etc and sell off your own ones:D

Nice bit of dosh for Xmas and you don\'t even have to construct your own eBay advert:flip:
