Is this where GW got the idea for super heavy tanks?

I wouldn\'t be surprised.

As a side note, you just won my \"soda out the nose\" award for this evening. It was the \"practical home hints\" tag on the first cover. lol

They might have gotten the idea from the early days of tanks - the \"land battleship\". Practicality eventually won out and things were scaled down a smidge.
Good potted history of tank development on Wikipedia.

Ogre micro-game and an old pulp sci-fi book series called \"bolo\" all were based on mega tanks.

An Ogre mk. V would be about like a Titan on treads.

The bolos ran the gamut from about the size of a modern main battle tank to a planetary defender.

Forgot about the Bolo books. Was it Laumer who wrote those?

I love that big four color one up top. I\'d like it as a poster.

There is another thread discussing the grimdark-ness of things. I like this as a good illustration of the way things were. It\'s a MASSIVE engine of war grinding an entire town under it\'s treads, but the glorious color and style of it still makes it all look like happiness and sunshine to me. Neat-O.

David Weber looks like the original, then there was a change over. (just judging by Amazons list of Bolo.

Tip #1 is \"Don\'t build your home in the path of the Monstrous Machines of the Next War.\"

Tip #2 is \"Curtains make everything better.\"

The interesting thing is that any of these would be mincemeat against modern air power and guided missiles, let alone tactical nukes. Just goes to show that \"you\'re always preparing for the previous war\".

Hugo Gernsback (the editor of this mag) was one of the major figures in the takeoff of science fiction as a published genre. His \"Amazing Stories\" was the first sci-fi fiction magazine.

The article started a few hundred years late though, as the first tank has been invented by Leonardo da Vinci as far as i now. ;)

As many other things from the \"Imperium\" are reminiscent of the Nazi Regime,
the superheavies might have also been inspired by the Nazi\'s Obsession with huge tanks. Link and Link
