too bad the fish in the water is basicly invisible in these pictures :/ ah well as i already said about this piece in the wip forum, it had been cool with the ogre in the water instead of next to, still, the water effect is very very well done.

i do think he is a little bit too gloss, and you have to fix the joints! other than that, nice job, expecially the green tinted right arm! congrats again to the pin :good:

really cool ( and I hate skaven) the base is amazing and the green arm (sicknes?) is nice, but i think the modell is too glossy as Steffan said and the brown skin is too flat
so you got a 7 from me (ifx the glooynes and skin and is a 8 !)

The shinyness it the thing that bothers me most tbh. Nothing a squirt of Matt spray won't fix though. Decent solid piece, I loke the warpstone in the arm and the tinted water is great!

love the dappled effect on his right arm. don't like the way the water looks like it is just sitting on top of the base, ie you can see the texture which should be at the bottom

Thanks Guys,

I may have to redo the photos. He's not glossy at all in the hand apart fom the tubing which was gloss coated. I think the glossiness is due to the way I lit him for the shots.

yeah the green arm is supposed to be mutation due to the chunk of warp stone.

The water was an experiment (not the best idea on an entry, lesson learned I guess). The ink added masked all the stuff I did to the base. And my boxing up for the pour was slightly off causing that front section of flock to be visible. Also I used that stuff from woodland scenics that you melt and pour and it shrunk a tiny bit pulling it away from the base enough to be noticeable.

As far as the painting goes. Can I improve the "flatness" (re the brown) by taking the highlights further?

Thanks for the comments and the votes

I would say yes, in regard to your question. I decided to paint a Wolfen recently from really dark to pure white highlight (mostly experimental) and it does a great job. That said it did reach the stage I was very unsure, but just keep going with it. I think every piece has a "crappy looking" stage before it's finished as a rule though.
As for the water effects, try 2 part resin. It doesn't shrink (at least not noticeably) ;)

you definetly should try to push the highlight one level or two, that would kill off the flatness.
also you can try to shade harder at the points where not much light reach, like in the armpits and groin for example. that would be cool.

i still think the water is very nicely done.

Mucho Congrats on the finalist pin :)

My only comment *was* going to be on the apparent glossiness - but given that the shine is due to lighting I pretty much don't have a thing to say, except ... stop painting so nice and give the rest of us a chance.... Nice one stew
