It\'s Christmas and this made me wonder...

Is Chitty Chitty Bang Bang steampunk?

I mean, random flying old car...? I wonder what else is there that fits in to this (for me anyway)

Whatever you are taking isn\'t working, lono.

C.C.B.B. is one of the most dire pieces of garbage I was ever dragged (and I mean Dragged) to the cinema to see.
It bears no relation to Ian Fleming\'s Book (other than the Title and Flying Car) and is a lame ass attempt at blatant exploitation of the \"Mary Poppins\" style movie.:|~

I don\'t care if it bears any relation whatsoever to Ian Flemming\'s book. It\'s entertaining as hell. Packed with brilliant performances. Dick Van Dyke and Lionel Jeffries are amazing as the two Potts, Gert Fröbe is even better as the Barron, Robert Helpmann\'s scary as hell as the child catcher, etc. Loads of good tunes and song and dance routines too.

The kiddies do get on my tits somewhat, but I can overlook them when so much other stuff is awesome.

As far as I\'m concerned it\'s vastly superior to Mary Poppins in every possible way. You\'re just struggling to see past Benny Hill as the Toymaker I reckon!

As for Bedknobs and Broomsticks, it\'s so easy to forget that film\'s packed with Nazis. Shocks me every time!

As for Bioshock, that\'s one of the most suptously designed bits of digital entertainment ever.

And Steamboy has some pretty strong steampunk visuals going on if animation is your cup of tea.

EDIT - and OK, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang isn\'t really \"one of the finest films of all time\", but combining childlike nostalgia with the fact I do think it has a lot of good things going for it, it\'s one of the films I most enjoy watching. It\'s my musical Goonies.

In Mary Poppins, getting past D.V.D.\'s nightmarishly badly done english accent
is probably the hardest part.

As for C.C.B.B., the tunes are catchy (reading this thread along has got two
of them stuck in my head), but I don\'t know that I\'d say any of the acting was
above average.

When I was a kid, I enjoyed it. Last time I tried to watch it, I got bored and switched
channels. That was about 9 years ago, now.

CCBB is definitely steampunk. Nobody asked \"is it GOOD steampunk\" ;)

To paraphrase Marv \"I like Nazis, you can do anything to them and you don\'t feel bad\". It\'s the secret behind \"Castle Wolfenstein\" and most WW2 movies. I certainly didn\'t mind seeing them being terrorized by animated suits of armour.

It makes it a different movie if you think too much about Hans the hastily-conscripted teenage Wehrmacht trooper being dumped on the shores of England only to be chopped to bits by these terrors of the dark arts... Why it\'s almost like one of those occult WW2 miniature games :D
