You guys quit talking about what\'s on the disks!!! I have to wait until Christmas day to watch mine.
:flame:;)

I\'ll just tell you about this one bit;

Frodo and Sam are facing some Orcs and then this big Orc says \"I am your father\" and then Frodo screams \"Nooooooooo\" and pulls out his lightsabre and so does Sam and all the Orcs too.
Then there\'s this huge lightsabre battle and it\'s totally awesome and there\'s blood and stuff everywhere and then Gandalf\'s disembodied voice says \"Use the Force Frodo\" and Aragon rides in on a giant eagle and says \"You\'re all clear kid. Now let\'s blow this thing and go home\"....

Oh no, wait, I think I got that wrong.....

sorry for the spoiler! :innocent:

but i think i saw that lightsabre battle too... or was i just dreaming? lol

and i guess there\'s a jetbike race on elvish shieds pulled by mumaks :D

Waitin\' for the Tele Tubbies Gold edition. Including rare lost footage, how they did the special effects (how did they get that baby in the sun???). Mandrin language option and some other bonus material under the heading \'stuff that kick\'s ass\'. The list could go on and on................

That was my main problem with the movies (well, that and my nagging suspicion/fear that Arwen was going to take Eowyn\'s place against the Witch-King) - the dumbing down of Gimli to a comic-relief character for the sake of having comedy. I hate that in most movies, but it seemed especially damaging here.

Looking forward to seeing the extended versions though, maybe in one weekend splurge.

Ha ,forgot about comic Gimli.
Theres some continuity issues and some bits are overdone, but I forgot about all those when I saw The Mouth of Sauron. He was the lasting image for me.

This is what I would do in your unfortunate situation.
Wait till everyone is in bed then sneakily open the present and watch the film then put it back and wrap it up again. No one will know.
Honest.

Yeah, The Mouth of Sauron was REALLY nasty!! :|~ ... but in a good way. I was more disgusted by him than I was by Shelob.

Unfortunately, they didn\'t have to dumb Gimli down too much. Tolkien was rather obvious in his preference for Elves above everybody. He definately saw them as everything good and everybody else as rather not-so.

I know what you mean about the Arwen/Eowyn fear though. I mean, they\'d already expanded her part to about 100 times larger. I think my largest problem with the movie was the rather lifeless portrayal of Galadriel. Yeah, she was pretty and all, but a bit too ethereal for me.

ah Galadriel....

I agree about the way the presented Galadriel. The one thing I didn\'t like about her was how freakin\' creepy she was.

I got from the books that she was heart wrenchingly beautiful (which is why Gimli was so smitten) but from the movies she came across as one of Charles Mansons family members...lol

I always thought Galadriel was a little, not creepy, but unnerving. After all, she\'s like 10,000 years old! How do you do that with an ordinary human actor?

Looking forward to the Mouth of Sauron. I missed him - along with all the other things they had to cut for time.
