Jedi Kids

For my next competition project, I'm preparing some of the "pirate" kids from Hasslefree. The first thing I did after receiving them was chop off the blades and add some cylindrical plasticard to create the lightsaber blades. Once I got that done they started to look much better.

My plan is to do individual diorama scenes with each of the kids facing off against some of Hasslefree's Grymm- their space dwarfs. I used my lifecolor flesh set for their skin and I really feel like i'm starting to get the hang of using it- still need to work out a few kinks, though.

For the first kid, I decided to go with the dark jedi look. My favorite part of painting him was his face- getting to play around with the shadows from the cowl was a lot of fun. I painted the stripes on his shirt to match one of the character models from the Jedi Academy game.

I did a lot of things differently with this girl, and I think it turned out well. For one, I based her outer robe with VMC Deck Tan and then gave it a couple of washes with Ogryn Flesh to establish the shading. Then I built back in the whites, going from Deck Tan to Silvergrey to pure white. Once that was done I mixed up some Deck Tan and Ogryn Flesh so I could smooth out some of the shadow transitions.

Her inner robe took a lot of though before I came up with that color scheme. I wanted to do something different and finally settled on that. Her hair, though, i my favorite part of this mini- it's the first time i've ever gotten shiny hair to look good.

This last kid is going to be jumping off of a catwalk onto 2 unsuspecting soldiers below- can't wait to model out that scene!

Those are looking pretty good, the only thing I see that I would do is get a dark line around the eyes, and maybe think about changing the color on one of the blades that the last kid is holding. The blue and green seems to not go together, in my eyes anyway. Not that I can think of another color that would wok better. That may just be me though.

They all look very nice, but my clear favorite is Princess Le.... uh, the little girl. Her robes look great, and the sword really fits with the other parts of the mini.

They've gone nicely Cregan, I painted Jen earlier this year but haven't got around to the others yet. You seem to have completrely got to grips with blue, as with the Dwarksword (?) woman, Jen's dress is very nice. A touch of grey in the shading of her dressing gowm & some smoothing of the highlight edges would be nice. I like the highlights on her hair too.

The other pair look more rushed so far, just tightening up highlights & shades a bit, they're giving me the impression they're sat after a first wash and need another stage to finish.

The eyes need tightening up. My method is Tallarn Flesh with Regal Blue in it, gives great coverage for neatly shaping the eyes in a single layer, perhaps a touch of Ogryn Flesh over the top of that.

Lightswords need some paint as bare plastic looks rather out of place. The green one, from the rear, looks bent. The red one could do to have it's tip rounded.
Lots of nice touches on show here, it'll be fun to see how they come out :good:
