Don\'t normally pimp my stuff but it\'s been a long time since I posted anything new so I thought, what the hey:

Great little bit of sculpting (but tricky to clean up) and lots of fun to paint.

The colors on this guy are incredible, Einion. I particularly like the matte of the cloth contrasting with the more glossy look of the book and cross.

You blend your own colors from art acrylics, no?

I really like the color selection. This piece has a \"warmness\" to it that I think is caused by realistic colors and subtle shading. I also like the metal surfaces; they reflect light naturally while still giving some sense of depth. Frankly, I\'m jealous!

My only bit of advice would be to look again at the flame on the torch. I think on a normal paintjob it would work, but it seems more artificial than the rest of this grimy figure. My skill with flame has a long way to go, but I would think that a brighter white core and a darker outside smoke would make it work.

Damn, you blend those colors by hand...? Here\'s one for you: :beer:

Yeah, have to say the fact that there\'s a naked flame in this did worry me - how to integrate the painting of the flame itself, and some kind of OSL, into a figure intended to be painted \'normally\', in daylight lighting?

I debated whether I\'d just do it as an OSL project but felt that it wouldn\'t do the detailed sculpt justice, so went with just a hint of lighting from the flame in the nearby surfaces.

Overall very good! Smooth paintjob, well blended and I like how you have picked out the details without making it look too busy.

For some constructive criticism. First I think the backgroundcolour is slightly overpowering and a bit too dark considering the daytime nature of the lighting. I think that constrast (also made from the complementary nature of the colours) make the flame look more unnatural then it is. Fire is always a bitch to paint. A pointer would be less yellow and more white and orange, a little more contrast to it.

Another thing would be to overall increase the contrast more on some surfaces, they seem to be lacking that last \"reflected light\" highlight. This would also help to define the areas against each other a little bit more. The final thing I would comment on is the clumps of foilage that are a nice addition but could use a little more highlights and maybe a paler green to go with the very naturalistic look of the rest of the base.

All in all great work! Solid 8 from me.

Since the background is a separate layer it\'s easy to change, how\'s this:
