JMD Miniatures demonette

@matty and freak: Thanks for the link!

Yeah, i can\'t say that i\'m surprised this one got shut down... it\'s a pretty blatant copy of a deamonette.

I think the true irony about GW saying that people can\'t copy their IP is that so much of their IP is liberated from specific literature. Chaos= Michael Moorcock, Space Marines= Starship Trooper (book), there are countless others... anyway, as for GW all i can say is it\'s nice to be the biggest kid on the block.

That subject has been talked to death on many warhammer forums and the general concensus is that such claims are very exagerrated and that GW mostly took inspiration from generas rather than ripping some particular element off.
The two examples You mentioned.
The books of Morrock where simply an influence, the dark pesimistic type of fantasy that he employed in his books was a style that spoke to GW writers. They simply went the same way when it comes to overall style. For example: You wouldnt say that Star Trek and Star Wars are rip off of each other. Space Marines are in almost every single SF universe today so it would take much more than similarity in names to say that w4ok marines are a rip off from starship troopers marines. In fact the only thing that they have in common is that they both use guns and are form future....
Starship Troopers are your typical SF US Marines in space, while GW marines are a fantastic oryginal conept that many people have come to love. Iam not saying that GW where always 100% original, but they never actually ripped something off per se.

ultimately gw are very careful not to get sued themselves. they will get you if you step over the line but are bastards in that they never seem to do it themselves. trouble with this sort of thing is that it\'s a very fine line between inspiration and copying

I cant say iam suprised that they are so picky about it. After all Warhammer has grown to become a real source of inspiration for other fantasy worlds today. Especially when it comes to art desing and visual style. You can really see a LOT of warhammer elements in many other fantasy worlds and Warcraft being just one of many. I guess i would also start to be a little touchy on that subject if i was in their place

As much as I hate to defend GW the mini in question is quite obviously a copy of the Slaneesh Daemonettes.

Now what I didn\'t notice was mention of what I consider to be GWs biggest rip-off which is Genestealers obviously taken from Aliens. For those who don\'t remember the early Genestealers they even had hybrids with humanoids that were even more Aliens like.
