Joona's Little Painting Diary

So, I've got that one thread going with the Eldar thingies but I also paint some other stuff. Probably more other stuff than the Eldar... I took shots of some of the minis I've painted during the few years I've painted with some real purpose besides just slapping on some colour.

For most part I paint minis that I will use for gaming. I'm rather keen on trying new games whenever possible so the problem is I tend to buy at least an army at a time. This sometimes leads to having an overwhelming amount of minis unpainted and now even starting properly. This also happened with the Eldar though now I have made a lot of progress with those by entering a campaign of sorts that forces me to paint more at certain intervals.

I'm not sure if this list includes everything I've tried so far but I've got some minis for at least Infinity, Warhammer Fantasy and 40k, Necromunda, Epic, LOTR, Malifaux, Eden, Ron&Bones, Warmachine, Hordes, Bloodbowl, Aeronautica Imperialis, Uncharted Seas, Dystopian Wars, DBM and Song of Blades and Heroes (well, any mini is okay for this game). Then there's some Smart Max stuff and other random minis from a few companies waiting for paint too...

Well, here's some pictures...

These are Infinity minis from the Combined Army. It's a nice game and the minis are even nicer. The propotions are very well done and some of the minis feel like they've been created more for painting than gaming with all the thin fiddly parts. They are a rather quick work as I wanted to get to play quickly.

First, a Seed-Soldier, sort of a basic grunt unit for CA

Figut - 104.jpg

Speculo Killer, an assassin/infiltrator type with some really nifty abilities

Figut - 106.jpg

Cadmus, a drop unit that lands somewhere behind enemy lines, kills someone, then eats him, grows bigger, steals weapons and abilities.

Malifaux is a game I really like though haven't played much lately. Some how it seems I'm not that fond of all the new books coming out. Same thing sort of happened with Warmachine...

Figut - 101.jpg

Lilith, Master of Malifaux, used to be one of the nastiest models before some errata. Basically she's a really fast and powerful killer with a huge sword.

Figut - 110.jpg

Young Nephilim, Lilith's cousin, the base is made of grey stuff, the lamp post is from a Wyrd accessory set

Figut - 111.jpg

Mature Nephilim, this is what the young ones grow into after killing stuff. Sadly I forgot to take a picture of Terror Tots who are the baby Nephilims...

Figut - 107.jpg

Candy, A demon kid who wails at people and feeds them poisoned candies...

Figut - 108.jpg

War Pig, Gremlins ride to war on pigs... And the rider also works as a shooting weapon...

These Reaper dwarfs I've painted to play in a Song of Blades and Heroes Campaing which turned a bit silly rather quickly with so many warbands dying quickly and the rest getting rather strong... We'll have to try again with a bit different rules for the campaigning. It's a good, simple and very fast system to play though.

Some nice minis there! Sounds like you have a lot going on there, you ought to check out my thread and look at the list of mini's I have to paint - I get the feeling we are in the same boat lol (DFB's thread full of stuff, last page or thereabouts) I collected several army types with the intention to play but never got around to it lol. Now I paint for fun and to eventually and hopefully sell, I am resigned to the fact that I will probably never get around to playing I think lol.

One tip for you, your photos contain a large proportion of background and the aerosol lid support, crop the photos a little to show more of the mini and a little more zoom, this will provide more focus for the viewers eye.

Those are gorgeous! I gotta admit, I am a little jealous of the whole army thing, if I'd bought all my Warhammer Chaos guys last year I would have saved alot of money, even if they aren't ready for painting!
I'd agree with DFB on the photos, maybe a bit of cropping in photoshop to cut out the extra background, would be nice to get a good look at some of the details, like on creepy Candy.

Wow, those are really nice looking minis, I'm particularly fond of those dwarf minis. For my sins, I've generally only ever bought GW models, but it looks like those Rackham models are worth investigating.

I think you might need to do a little work to lift the metallics on them, just a few edge highlights here and there would make a big difference.

I also agree on that the actual minis could be larger in some pictures. The problem is my camera isn't that good. It's about six years old and even then it wasn't too expensive. It works really well outside but the macro capabilities aren't that great. I'll have to try zooming in a bit more and see if it can still focus on the minis properly. And I think there might be some white balance issues too, I'll have to work on those too...

Strange how my painting has lately revolved mostly around Games Workshop models... I wonder why. Well, anyways. I had this perverted idea of putting together a Death Korps of Krieg themed Warhammer Giant. There'll probably be a lot of annoying very large trenchcoat sculpting to do, but it would probably be fairly cool. That or I'll just end up with a ruined half-finished giant in my drawers to wait for better times. I sort of have a feeling I'd like to paint a few Death Korps minis anyway. Maybe three Deathriders and a small squad of normal troops along a Centaur. They just look extremely nice.

Other than that, I'd have to find a good semilarge model to paint to highest standard I've yet done. Something that would really take a lot of time to paint and there wouldn't be much of a deadline either. Just finish each part with love and taking the time to make it look good. Aaaand if it turns out very nice, I could visit Games Day to get bashed by real painters.
