Joren's Workshop

well welcome to my workshop ;) ,
I decided to change my approach on posting stuff on my threads, thats why I decided to start a new one and try to keep it nice and clean.
Previously I only posted stuff from my orcs and goblin army on cmon, but now i'll try to post my other projects too. I've had some post about some of them but those didn't go very well:p
I've posted stuff quite randomly and it turned out to be a bit chaotic and not used that much, but i hope that will change now :D
I'll have 3 'catagories' in this thread,I'll start with 3 global overview kinda-posts, 1st will be showcase-mini's, 2nd will be Wood Elves army and 3th will be orcs and goblins.
I'll try and hope to keep this tread updated frequently but im not really a fast painter, more a slow one :)
I hope this approach will increase the use of this thread, and thereby hopefully the feedback.
so i'll mention this on forehand: C&C's are definitely appreciated!

I'll hope you enjoy

Showcase miniatures

Gnoblar
this is my first miniature that i tried for just showcase reason, and it turned out to be alot of fun!
I wanted to use this minuature to practise some techniques: Muted colors, Spot color, Texture.
I don't believe this is Golden Demon worthy but I think it turned out really good, a nice start for further showcase miniatures:)

Orcs and Goblins (UPDATED)

Squig Herd
this is the first squig I've painted for the unit, really pleased with it especially the eyes.
I was quite bored with painting the rank and files of a Orc Unit :)S still working on it...) so tried this one in between and let my inner BPI go lose ;)

The Gnoblar has a very good "table" view. You really don't notice any brushstrokes or stark highlights until you get in close. Obviously as you practice painting to this standard more, the lines will start disappearing and you'll be getting very smooth blends. Good job! The only critique I would offer is that the color of the Gnoblar's skin tone is very similar to the bag he's dragging in his left hand so the two start to blend together a bit. Otherwise, very nice and realistic!

Hi Joren, there are some nice colours on there, the blood, meat & pie are working well for me.

His mouth looks really good, nice sharp definition but his left eye is back in that recessed bit under the hood, not on the side of his nose, hence it looking so flat (particularly shown up by the nice mouth).

Picture size is good :good:

Let's see these Elves & Greenies then :D

Cheers, B.

thanks for the replies guys, appreciated it very much!
@TheDrescher: I did notice a bit that the colors of the skin and the bag were real close, but I like the way I painted the bag and was really pleased with the colors of and the texture that I probably didn't realise it that much, so i'll keep an eye on that for the next one!
@BPI: I've been fighting with that eye when i was painting it, i couldn't find the right place for it and when i painted this it looked OK, but now you've mentiond the right spot i can see i'm far off:p but i geus i sanded the eye away or something like that:S

I'll try to post some pictures of the elves and greens tmorrow.(or today acctually since its quite late here...o_o)

Cheers for the words they really motivate me to go on!

Wood Elves

WIP

Here is a little sneak peak of the colorscheme i wanna go with for my wood elves, I'm planning on typing the story of them in the Wood Elves-post, but that will follow. To start with, the wood elves are from the kindred of Talu, the Vengeance Kindred. So I imagined them dark and muted and with red als the color of blood since they seek the targets for there revenge acts.
they aren't as dark and muted as I thought they would be but I had the basis of the colors on one and i really liked those colors, so so i painted some red in it.

And here is the voting link for the gnoblar: http://coolminiornot.com/257704

and this is what I've come up with:

all input on the colorscheme/colors/story or whatever is very appreciated

Saurus Rider

WIP

showcase mini

hello there, its been awhile now because of some vacations and stuff and haven't been to busy with painting...
I still cant find the motivation to paint those darned Orcs :(...
But in the meanwhile I've also been working on some small conversion work in this Lizardmen Sauris cavalry rider I got, mainly bending the head of the saurus to get him look at the same point as the cold one and greenstuffing some joints for his arms as i want them to have a different position aswell.
But the problem is I can't really think of good (and fun) colors to paint these guys with... I've been thinking about making the cold one naturaly toned and the rider bright to contrast but dunno if that will work and what colors to pick...
Need some advice with this please!!!!!!

all input is appreciated!
