Well, after much voting debacle and discussion, the piece has been decided on:
This is the Company Picture of the mini:

And this is the paint scheme I\'m planning on:

I will be trying to paint/picture/post as often as possible, and would REALLY appreciate a running discussion/commentary on the work as it progresses. I haven\'t worked on a display piece in several years and your comments will help me to stay on course. :D

thanks Guys(Gals)!!

Cleaned, Polished, and Primed.

I snipped her off the base tab.
I was considering bending her legs a bit, but decided I would concentrate on painting rather than positioning.

here is a pic after Spraying:

I will post another when she\'s completely primed and added to a base.

Completed base coat of black and added her to a cork base. I\'m going to add flock and steppe grasses to the falt surfaces on the base, hopefully it will look like she is on a higher plateau/vantage point.
I haven\'t attached the gun as yet, I haven\'t decided whether to paint it before of after it is attached, likely I will paint it seperately and attach after.

Here she is again:

lots of cleanup with that mini? Looks like she had a major mold line all the way around. I hate working in the inside of arm/elbow area. Seems I never get it right - too much or not enough.

She seemed almost miscast, the feet are a bit rounded and th hair in the ponytail seems to be missing, but the flash wasn\'t too bad. I think I got it all, I used Diamond Files, Metal Files and Fine Grain Sanding.
When I start painting I\'ll probably catch something I missed when she was shiny...Don\'t see anything in the black though.

If you are looking to expand and try new things, why not try Zenthil (sp?) priming, prime black, then prime white from above. Move in a full halo for normal or from only a certain spot for OSL. Gives you a good idea of where the highlights go.

I don\'t think Zenithal(Azimuthal) would work too well. Excellent for OSL, but she doesn\'t really have a light source on her, and it might screw me up trying to keep the highlights straight.
I\'m not sure if I should go with underpainting or not.
That\'s why I asked.
Anyone have an opinion on Pros and Cons?

Okay, thanks for the feedback there...lol.

I will be underpainting.
Hopefully it will be like a dry run, just like painting only monochromatic...:D

I\'ll probably be posting in the middle of the week or the weekend.

Busy time of year, for both painting and other businesses. Gotta keep them going or I\'ll have to...*GASP*...get a 9-5 job!!

And no one wants that! lol I might sit in an office 40 hours a week, but I at least work graveyard shifts since I can\'t deal with the regular daytime hours.

Looking forward to the updates. I\'ve always planned to give zenithal priming and/or underpainting a try someday, but I don\'t actually paint enough, unfortunately, to have gotten around to it yet.

Unfortunately this past week we had a problem.
With the heavy snow and then thaw, our sump-pump hose was frozen while the pump was pumping. After a burst pipe and a flooded basement, I\'m trying to recover my paint studio (read: workroom in basement.) so It may be a couple weeks before I can get back to painting and posting. I have even had to postpone a commission, so priorities means that will have to be done BEFORE I can get back to this.
Sorry to you all, but now you know why I\'ve been on the forums everyday....I\'ve got nothin\' better to do:(

Ouch, that sucks! I grew up in, and spent most of my life in, Detroit prior to moving to L.A. six years ago, so I\'ve got plenty of experience with flooded basements (including one particularly bad one when I was a kid... and had my bedroom down there at the time). I just hope you didn\'t actually lose any (or at least very much) stuff, minis or no; good luck!

As this isn\'t our first pipe break/pump break/flood, most of everything worth the effort is kept about a foot off the floor. I lost a decent area rug, and had to refinish my desk and chair legs. But that was about it. Some unimportant papers, and shipping boxes, but they\'ve already been reordered. So all in all, just a big hassle and delay.
Took forever to get the carpet guy out. He wasn\'t expecting any jobs for awhile, so he had to get his van and equipment out of storage, but we paid him well, so he did an excellent job..:D

I should be getting back in the next few days.
Thanks!!

ACHTUNG! Thats a shitter about the burst pipe man  Hope everythings cool now though. I personally prime (underpaint) it white, I just like the more vibrant colours you can get out of it. You can paint black over it in different parts for darker effects. To me white just adds a bit more control though.
Looking forward to checking it out later!

I usually use a white undercoat as well, except for mostly black/blue or metal minis.
BUT, as I am going to be underpainting, I figured black would be fine, AND my white can of spray is totally clogged..:D
My room is almost back to the way it was, so I\'ll be posting sometime this week.

Okay. An update of sorts:
My room is complete-
My Desk

My Desk and surrounding area
2006151205666372765_rs.jpg

My storage locker (has my minis bin/bits box and tools)
2006184756789150214_rs.jpg

My music and essential movies (the cabinet has more minis (used to be a display case on top, that fell and broke-most of the pieces are in box to be touched up :(
2006169438811276102_rs.jpg

My \"entertainment center\" - It\'s in the room, I took a picture of it.
2006123393091540622_rs.jpg

And other than some last few things that need to be replaced or moved back in, all is well.
(plus my desk is SO CLEAN:D)

BUT~
I\'ve learned something about myself:
I can\'t get anything done if my desk is clean and I am concentrating on just one thing!
I\'ve sat down to paint this chick 17 times!
I stare at her, and I open some paint pots, I even put some paint in my pallette, but I just can\'t seem to get her started!!
SO, I\'m going to pull out all of my current projects (7 or 8 between 15% and 80% complete) and see what happens!
I\'ll keep ya posted!
Cheers!

Remember to keep her skin tone dark. She describes herself as a \'Cafe....\' dang it can\'t remember how she said it. Mixed race, Mother or Grandmother was a Black South African. I\'m going to have to find the books here on, this is going to bug the heck out of me.

Here are some updates.
I\'ve been working on the skin tones.

I\'m about 2/3rds done with the arm, and 1/2 done with the facial skin tones.
