Jungle Boogie...

As most of you know from LP\'s thread, I just had my 40th birthday yesterday (04/05). Grumb\'s throwing me a dance party next week (4/14 - \"GOOD\" Fri.!) and I\'m looking for suggestions for good dance songs - including romantic slow songs.

I already plan on playing \"I Like to Move It\" from the Madagascar soundtrack, in honor of LeopardPixie, and...ok, major old brain-fart - the Bee-Gee\'s song that goes with the Star Wars kid clip that Ebonbuddha posted. *damn brain!!!*

Anyway, I\'m looking for songs across all the decades and since I can\'t always remember the names of songs - see above - I\'m trolling other people\'s memories! :D

Thanks for helping out an old broad! ;)

The BeeGees have a ton of great dance tunes; albeit somewhat retro-cheesy. Howabout funk?

Actually this is not an easy forum question....

Too many nationalities to agree...USA charts are way different from UK and UK is miles away from Euro charts...???

I am sure folks will do their best however...

Good tunes people!!! Most of them I\'ve already got :D so we\'re thinking alike!

@Finn - if I can download them from I-tunes or someother system then it doesn\'t matter what nationality it is. In fact, Grumb gets us hooked on Euro music whenever he travels and hears something he likes.

Keep \'em comin\' people~adsda

The Pina Colada song (An old favorite and very appropriate all things considered) ;)

Love to Love you baby by Donna Summers. Not the best song in the world, but it brings back fond memories of simpler time when moaning on an album got it band from radio play.

And you can\'t have a party without Meatloaf. Make sure you have a Karaoke guy for that one. :D

Definitely, the best part about Karaoke of Meatloaf tunes is he is the musician for self-esteem building. Even if you can\'t sing as well as him, EVERYONE looks better than he does.

slow songs...how about some mo-town stuff. al green (here i am, still in love), otis redding (sitting on the dock of the bay), marvin gaye (lets get it on), the temptations (runaway child running wild)

i love those tunes and there are probably much better songs by those artists, i just happen to like them.

Dawn...40...isn\'t that just 18 with 22 years experience?:D
Congrats, BTW!

Anyway..slow songs I like to play for my lady....
I\'ll name some groups from our era..
Just to prompt you a bit---as the good songs are too numerous to pick out. Most of these guys have some pretty good slow stuff--

Styx is always a good choice. (Babe, etc)
Journey has some good slow stuff.
Chicago
Boston
The Police
REO Speedwagon
Air Supply (EEEKKKKK..)
Peaches and Herb
Poison
Michael Bolton
Hall and Oates
Smokey Robinson

As far as other good general music---
Stevie Ray Vaughn
REM
Peter Gabriel (also a good slow song, In Your Eyes--if you like it)
Billy Joel
The Eagles (obviously)
Elton John
Genesis
JOE WALSH (a must have for any party)
Queen
Rush (if you like their stuff)

Anyway...there\'s enough
great songs from those bands to keep you busy for awhile....

Kev

Oh yea...Molly Hatchet. Can\'t leave those guys off...dammit man...almost forgot \'em.

Hmm -

How bout some Village People?

In the Jailhouse Now and Man of Constant Sorrow from the O Brother Where art Thou soundtrack leap to mind - perhaps because they are playing right now -

Some Blue Oyster Cult comes to mind, along with some Judas Priest - Breaking the Law is a great Birthday Song, IMHO -

Other than that? Otis Day and the Nights from the Animal House Soundtrack - just remember to Alligator at the proper moment

Trevor

Brushlicker and Freak!
Cyndi Lauper\'s Time after Time, first song I slow danced to . The second (same night) was a Tina Turner song, but I can\'t remember what it was called.

Right Said Fred - Deeply Dippy, its just a happy song.

Katrina and the Waves - Walking on sunshine, ditto.

Bon Jovi - living on a prayer

Queen Bohemian Rhapsody, but its a bit long, so you really need people who are fans, better would be Don\'t stop me now (or whatever its called).

Artic monkeys - I bet that you look good on the dance floor

Chemical Brothers - Block Rockin Beats (or a whole bunch of others)

Apollo 440 - Theme from Lost in space

The Proclaimers - 1,000 miles

The Pogues (I think?) - Come on Eileen

Faith no More - Midlife Crisis ;)

Jethro Tull - Too young to die too old to Rock and Roll ;)

Its kinda hard though, depends what you mean by \"good dance songs\" personally I can dance to 70\'s 80\'s, Rock, Metal, Goth Industrial, Beats, Trance, Techno, Alternative, Britpop etc etc. I just fall flat with Rap, Drum and Bass and R&B.

Also some music you really need to be high to dance to (although going on this guy I was watching the other night at a club I think its more just a case of if you are really high you don\'t care and just \'think\' you are dancing).

You can buy compilations like \"The worlds Cheesiest Party\" which usually provide a half decent selection of stuff you would never normally admit to listening to, but when drunk and having a good time EVERYONE seems know and dance to.

Trev - Dexies Midnight Runners did Come on Elieen

Couple more -

Steve Miller - just put in the greatest hits and let it roll

Oingo Boingo - since it fits the over the hill theme (and Dawn, I\'m only 8 months behind you (damn near to the day)) Dead Man\'s Party

Toby Keith - Same As I Once Was

Edit -

BALLROOM BLITZ - by Krokus and Blitzkrieg Bop by the Ramones

How \'bout some good old ABBA? :)

If you\'re forty now then maybe 80\'s music is mostly your thing? Belinda Carlisle and Spandau ballet maybe?
