Ditto. Good friends of the family were killed by a drunk driver and almost my mom to a drunk driver.............have fun, be careful, arrive alive, use a designated driver.

Firstly, I am not in favour of drink-driving, just to be clear.
However, contrary to what the thought police would have you believe, it is not genocide. It does not mean the death of a small child or elderly couple every time a driver has a few drinks. The vast majority of drink-drivers never harm a single person, and the over-whelming cause of road death is bad driving or stupidity etc etc.
This makes it look like I condone drink-driving. I do not - I just don\'t like the propaganda that anyone who does it is some sort of despicable, wretched lunatic (I know you didn\'t say that, but many impressionable people take this view, due to the government brainwashing that has admittedly saved many lives).

Didn\'t read that before I wrote my previous post. That\'s pretty bad.
My eldest sister was hit when she was young, broke both legs (though no permanant damage thankfully).
When I got knocked down (not by a drinker though) it was my fault (Built a ramp near the kerb, jumped into the path of a car) I got flung 10m but only broke 2 toes.

Well actually still 1/3 of every driver that dies in carcrashes in Sweden has alcohol in their veins. Alcohol related car accidents cost the Swedish taxpayers approximately 400 million dollars every year and we are very small country. In Sweden there are only approximatel 5-600 people that die in traffic every year.
Not many are wretched lunatics that drink and drive. They are just plain stupid! In a village a couple of miles near us a drunk bastard ran over a grandma and her granddaughter just one or two years ago. If the goverment \"brainwashing\" could have saved their lives I\'m all in for it. Condolences to those that lost near and dear.

No maybe not but it DOES add extra risk. A car CAN be a murder weapon even if you don\'t mean it to be. So why deliberatly make it more dangerous? You don\'t have to be a despicable, wretched lunatic to do that but in my eyes it\'s irresponsible. You do make the risk for your own health and maybe even life bigger which is not to smart. But you also do the same with other peoples lives whom you might involve in the accident that could have been prevented without the alcohol. Which is unforgivable in my eyes. I know I would never be able to forgive myself if I thought driving with alcohol in my system (which is then a concious choice of mine) would cause harm to another being. (the same applies to deliberate dangerous driving for sport and acting all touch and populair towards friend... The fact you think you can drive well and can do tricks and the fact you never had it go wrong (which could been luck... not good driving) doesn\'t excuse the risk you pose on other people.)
Driving drunk is all about confidence and paying attention. Once you lose confidence your screwed. Although if your pissed off your ass i\'d imagine you don\'t even have a chance. I don\'t condone drunk driving either. I don\'t drink or condone mass consumption of alcohol either. In case you were wondering.

Though drinking tends to make you overconfident.. eventhough it makes your responses slower and the attention you can actually pay to your surroundings less, you might not even notice yourself... hence the overconfidence. I don\'t think I would have confidence in a drunk driver that\'s driving like s**t but claims (s)he\'s confident and everything goes well... claiming (s)he never made an accident before so his/her confidence is allowed.
I think the drunk or atleast intoxicated drivers that fel like they can drive (confidence) while they actually can\'t anymore are the most hazardous. Thinking and believing you can drive doesn\'t immediatly make it true.

Alcohol impares Judgement, Co-ordination, Reaction time and diminishes visual acuity. All things needed for handling a moving vehicle weighing in at around a ton.

Talk to any policeman and ask them how many Drunk driver accidents they have to attend and how many were fatal.

i\'m with Avelorn... cars make me uneasy no matter who\'s driving them. Plus the way people drive around here (California\'s got to have the worst drivers in the world... i can\'t imagine it getting very much worse) makes you cring. i\'m quiet happy just going 25-30 MPH on my road bike. i\'ll get there when i get there.

No joke - I knew a guy who said that back in his drinking days he learned that while driving drunk it was the LEFT image that was the correct one to follow.
You may be the most careful driver in the world........that dont matter. The guy \'knowing\' which image is the \'correct\' one negates all the caution on our own part.

I was driving home one day with my Dad and we were listening the the \'gossip\' over the HF Radio. We gringed when we heard a truck driver talk about the results of a Car crash he had just passed, due to drink driving. Just to give you a clue, the women who was driving was originally in the drivers seat, she was now somewhere near the boot of the car. Not something nice to hear.
