The reason I said about the not hitting each other is that one of my mates that does it was attending Hastings and managed to get himself a prime spot in the shieldwall. Unfortunately it meant he was right at the front when the throwing spears started coming in. Fair enough they are just short poles with blunt ends but they still pack quite a punch as he found out when one hit him \"squar\' in the nuts\". Apparently he woke up about 20 mins later in the hospital tent having blacked out from the pain.

My daughter and I went to see him fight at a show a while back and she now calls him \"the big fat floppy viking\". If only she knew lol

After reading that I just got a picture of a mentalist with a sniper rifle in a tower mumbling \"Magic Missile, you die!\"...

Aaaanyway, I have no idea what I am! I know who I am and thats all I really care about lol Let people think what they want.
Historical re-enactment isn\'t the same as LARPing, thats been covered though, and it\'s fun to watch not hysterical.

It\'s cool when a group of adults, mostly male, get together and discuss why their obsessive behaviour over toy soldiers is considered nerdy, (I prefer geeky, but lets not go there lol)lol I mean, do you really need to ask that?
The curious thing would for it not to be seen as geeky by the Sports, celeb gossip, T.V. consuming masses.
What is funny, is when we get into the \'painting is not as geeky as gaming\' vibe, or \'Larpers and historical reanactors are more geeky than mini collectors\'
:rolleyes:lollol
I\'m off to find a historical enactment/Larp site to see if they\'ve got any threads commenting on how geeky mini painters are;)

lol i was going to post somthing simular. i asked why it is considered geeky and theres a page about larping lol lol i think we found out why. Back to larping and battle reinactment, i wouldnt consider them the same at all, like thingy said (names + me = dont go there!) battle reinactment is concerned with history which i respect where as larping isnt, its more concered with playing heroes of gondor. i can imagin someone going to a battle reinactment dressed in a sheet with stars taped on shouting \"magic missile now you die!\" would only get the responce of \" oh bloody hell f*ck off!\"

I know LARPers are a convenient target for ridiculing, but in all honesty... what they do is pretty much the same sort of escapism that most of us seek in our hobbies. It\'s just a different hobby than ours. It\'s not just about playing heroes and bashing each other with rubber swords. It\'s about making your own equipment, using proper materials, trying to create things that seem authentic and help create the otherworldly atmosphere they seek within the game. It\'s about creating a setting that feels authentic and to habituate it with a wide array of people and creatures. It\'s about doing and enjoying something together.

Of course, some LARPers can be a bit anal with what they do (some more than others), but honestly, isn\'t that the case with pretty much whatever hobby or activity we may chose to observe?

And, no, I\'m not a LARPer ( :innocent: ) and I have, in fact, never participated in a LARP, but I know a couple of people who are really serious about it.
