Becca sounds like you are very much like my soon to be seperated from wife\'s daughter she is 21 and well into the performing arts.
She listens to a piece of music once then plays it on the piano and can sing it as well.
She is now taking lessons as a soprano for opera, she took a grade three performing arts exam without sitting the others and got a distinction by doing 2 grade 8 pieces.

Me I couldn\'t tell a note in or out of tune.

I wish you the best of luck with it, may you have a great success and career.

I was a soldier for a while (EOD), smartened up a bit, and have been a firefighter for the last 7 years. Still don\'t know what I want to be when I grow up - but this ain\'t it.

I just saw you joined the thread over at TSOFA. Workshop, hmm, any chance of you writing a general book on the subject for sculptors?:)

I notice that you did not write \"there are NO serial killers among you\". Hmm, is that just because of statistics or should we be worried? ;)

As a matter of fact, I put together a handbook that is given to my students. It needs some editing, but would work for fine art sculptors. I will work on it when I have time.

Statistics are in our favor, but you never really know... (Says to self: Smile and just keep walking...don\'t look back...whistle...whistle)

I build traditional church pipe organs. I\'d like to get different job, though, one where pracicing the art of conversation is actively encouraged. I\'d really like to work with kids. Working in a daycare center for 6-10 year-olds or pree-teens would be cool, the problem is the cut in pay....:(:)

@Marineboy, Trust me been running a daycare for the last 6 years... its not all its cracked up to be! The kids are great, the Bureaucratic Bull shit and the Parents who don\'t give a damn it so not worth it.
I am up for renewal on my license next month I had to do a LOT of soul searching to decide if I still wanted to do child care or to take the cut in pay and go work at McDonalds:D
Sorry for the rant, its been a really bad week.

@anatora, keep us up to date on the booklet. i\'m on several sculpting forums and I\'m certain there will be a lot of interest for a book like that.

@Gin1906, in that case, how about combining daycare with the martial arts bussiness? :D Though seriously, it would not be bad if kids get introduced in the philosophy of some martial arts.

Actually that is almost exactly what I am doing right now, I have over half of my daycare in the martial arts classes, though I eventually would like to give up the daycare altogether. Don\'t get me wrong, I love the kids, and even some of the parents, it there is just so much more bad than good in my job.:(

Funny, I thought about quitting and working at McDonalds, too!

Here in DK daycare is pretty much institutionalised...private daycare is common in the provinces, in the cities larger institutions are the norm. The after-school care institution my two sons go to has about 130 kids divided into 4 groups, with a personel groups of...20? 30? individuals...some with bachelor degrees in child paedagogics(? is this a word ?), some untrained helps under supervision of the paedagogs....this is the type of environment I\'m thinking about working in.

Thing is I\'m really tired of working in production, done it all my life. The carpentry work I do is fine, conditions at the shop at which I am employed are probably better by far than at most other workshops in DK. Problem is, I want to work with people, not things. It\'s possible to take a paedagogic degree in the evenings...big investment in time and money... haven\'t made up my mind yet.

Or maybe the answer is to start teaching carpentry to children.....:):)

This thread has been interesting reading, there are a diverse group of jobs here!

I recently started my first job after about 13 years of not working. Given that big resume gap, I figure I shouldn\'t be too downcast over my lowly job as a game store sales clerk, despite having a degree and such. And hey, I get discounts on minis and painting supplies, I probably have the most envied job in the thread! ;)

Children and power tools?! Now that ought to be interesting.lol

I did the teaching thing. Was going to college for my Elementary Ed. degree with a major in Special Education. Had to take some courses in Physchology and Abnormal physch. Then I was student teaching for 6 months, 16 kids in four groups of four for 1 hr 45 min per group. I really loved it. They were all kids with problems, either physical or emotional. That moment when you realize the kid just \"got it\", that moment of understanding when explaining something new. You can see it in their faces; there is no greater feeling of accomplishment then that. Unfortunately, all the other teachers were very unhappy, and all wanted to be something else. They ended-up teachers, and couldn\'t believe I was going for being a teacher on purpose. Kinda knocked the wind outta my sails. I quit college with only one semester left and went into the trades because it was good money. I regret letting those jerks influence me, I often miss my classroom days.

@Becca - Don\'t let ANYONE discourage you, reach for the stars and attain your dreams. the only thing that can stop you is YOU.

I also did the acting gig; Lead role highschool senior play. Thought I was great until I went to college and took drama. It was a real wake-up call when I found out I wasn\'t good, I was just better then all the terrible people that tried out.

Also did the retail thing a year ago, for Home Depot. I refer to it as my year in hell. It was loads of laughs getting verbally abused by irate customers for things that were beyond your control.

Fast food - Whatever you do.....DON\'T!!! Worked at Jack-in-the-box (poor man\'s McDonalds) when I was 16, all I got out of it was a face full of zits!

I\'ve done a lot of things in my life, but probably the best was becoming a father. Its sort of like my teaching job, except I don\'t have to give them back after 8 hours.:D

Sorry Duende, I was a bit slow there....

Indeed, there have been several such threads but, as the population changes, there is a need to refresh

The last thread was this one:

As for me, I am currently a psychologist, but I have been engineer, greengrocer, window dresser, driver, salesman, lifeguard, researcher, teacher, groundsman, foreman, washer-upper, barman and probably several other things I can\'t remember at the moment.

I\'m a wife & mom

I pretty much run our household. Used to work as an Administrative Assistant for VP/Managers in a software development company - thank goodness it was the software programming dept.! I fit in great with all the other geeks! :D I was actually the best Admin. they\'d ever had because I\'d taken programming in high school. I helped do QA testing, operated and improved their error reporting system, etc. Before that worked for another S/W development co. in the marketing dept. Did some design work and other computer-related tasks they gave me.

Really wanted to be in the biology field my whole life, but didn\'t want to work in a lab. Still haven\'t figured out what I want to do when I grow up.
