Kaptain Gorak - WIP

Posting some pictures of my WIP of Kaptain Gorak. By my standards its been coming along okay. No Crystal brush for me! It's a fun miniature to paint and I have some ideas about how to base him.
Looking for any advice and feedback anyone has to offer.

I'm not very happy with the waist coat. it was supposed to look like red leather but mostly looks muddy and the contrast with the lapel is poor.
I'm making some progress on getting the lapel and cuffs to look worn. Any suggestions on how to make the blue coat seem weathered? I was thinking of trying to make it look salt stained with some white/grey splotches.
The piston is supposed to be a red wood like chestnut. Needs more red and some graining. The metal parts should be gold and iron. May try to make those NMM but that's a bit intimidating.

Oh - and any suggestions on how to keep the pictures from rotating? Sorry for the neck strain....

My thanks in advance for any and all who take a look and have suggestions.

Hi , you need to try and getter cleaner blending and layering. Keep the painted thin and make sure each stage is DRY before the next , this will stop the muddy looking effect on the colours.

But that would require patience!? I will try. Getting the paint to the right consistency drives me crazy. Either it is too think, or it runs all over the place.....
thanks for the advice!

it takes some experience to get the right consistency, but as a rule its better to have the paint watery and do more layers than too thick. miniature painting do require a certain amount of patience :beauty:

Thanks SkeletteS. Part of my problem is I get it to the right consistency but can't keep it there. Been playing around with a wet pallet which seems to help. Not sure i've had much luck with slo dry medium Seems to make everything too shiny (and that's the mat medium)

Latest pictures.

Changed the waste coat. Tried more layers to try to blend the paints better.
I spent a bunch of time trying to "age" the coat. i think it's better if not great.
Working on the gun to make it look like steel trying my NMM skills (or lack there of) having trouble getting glean highlight thin enough to look like light reflecting rather than a blob of paint.

The pictures didn't come out that great. Will try again and maybe this time i can get them right side up. They look okay on my computer!?

Better pictures (I hope and some progress) Still need to do some clean up and more blending.
Pieces of it look pretty good to me. I'm happy with how the pistol came out.

Also started the pier on which i was going to place the Kaptain. Just trying to get the scale right for now.
eventually I'm going to want to sink it into water. Does any one have any good ideas of how to build the box that will hold the liquid water so that it's easy to remove once it has hardened?

thanks for looking (all those who did) and special thanks to anyone who has comments or suggestion.
