I just heard on the BBC Radio 5 service that coppers in New York have reverted to using bicycles in Central Park as the in-line skates they used were no good on grass. lol

Oh, to have been a criminal in New York whilst they wore their skates! It would have been like taking sweeties off of a baby.

Here where I live they briefly had coppers on bicycles. One day while walking downtown they were proceeding to pull over a car that had comitted some offense. The bicycles came equipped with little tiny sirens. We-we-we-we-we............people on the sidewalks were laughing, me being one of them.

I prefer our cops on horses, here in Toronto. There aren\'t a lot of them, anymore, but there\'s still four that work downtown. One pair works around High Park, and the other along the beaches, I think.

I agree. The problem is, the BFG from Doom is not yet available for police use in New York City.

And fully automatic uzis are illegal, which would make it problematic for the cops to carry them.

Growing up in 70\'s & 80\'s Belfast the Cops had 3.5l V8 landrovers and Saracens and they didn\'t give a feck what they drove over, that could include you!

About the bikes, over here in the Netherlands it\'s quite common to see police patrols on bike. Especially in cities since bikes are much easier to use there (when somebody slips into a small alley or trying to get through the Amsterdam traffic) than a car. They are ordinary bikes though, no siren.
