OK! finally finished this guy. Generally... I am pleased. The VGC tended to leave some shiny finish that I didnt want but managed to clean it up a bit. He was challenging for me to paint with all the small fillagree and so forth. I enjoyed the experience and look forward to trying out some more rackham minis. Thanks to those who had input during my WIP thread! I really enjoed your input and i feel it helped the mini along nicely.

I think he looks really good! The little butterflies were a nice touch as well. It kinda makes me want to dig mine out and paint him. You get an 8 from me!

It\'s cool, I like the feathers a lot, but I don\'t think the super shiney NMM goes well with the earthy colour scheme , I would have gone for a more oxidized or bronze metals, but horses for courses and all that.
I think you should have spent more time on the face, as for me, it\'s lacking in POW, and it\'s the natural focus of the mini, especially under that hood. The base is great, but to my mind it out shines the mini itself. which is problematic.
Over all I\'d give it a 7.5, it\'s a cool mini.

thanks for the input guys, quite appreciated!

He\'s a lot of fun and a challenege to paint. I\'d sugest it. I\'d love to see what you do with him.

Glad you liked it! thatnks for the comments. I really enjoy doing that style of metal, but need to branch out and add some oxidation and such to minis down the road, I am going to order some pigments soon to do this.
As for the face, this is the part of the model I spent a great deal of time on and thought I had nailed it. what specifically looks subpar about it to you? It is a very strange and difficult face to paint since in reality it is slanted inward from top to bottom to add to the cloaked effect. I looked through the 8+ versions of this guy in the gallery when i had finished the face and felt that it was comparable to the low 8s in there. But that\'s just inspiration to put even more time in next time!

again thanks guys.

I paint my thumb.
Good job, I\'d agree the shiney bits detract a bit from the mood of the rest of the model. All the twirley bits on the armor are not as neat as could be but that looks tough to paint. The feathers and the green fabric look awesome :)

I wouldn\'t say the face is subpar by any means, it just isn\'t the focus of the mini, where I think it should be.
I guess you\'d have to deaden down other areas to bring the focus back to the face.
You can also get nice oxide effects just with washes, without using pigments, I don\'t know how they\'d work over the NMM though...
Bear in mind that I have the same problem with my stuff, it\'s a lot easier to objectively critise someone else\'s work, but I find when I\'m painting, I tend to lose sight of ideas like where the central focus of the mini should be, and how the colours are working together. My NMM is also shite, so don\'t get disheartened by my comments, I really do like the job you\'ve done on this one:)

Yeah I agree about the metal peices on th chest not being as smooth as they could be. Doing that section was in exersize in how much paint needed to be on the brush at any time. I flooded the recesses several times with my highlight and had to mop it up and repaint the shadows. This lead to some parts looking less smooth than others. couple that with the spots of glare in the shadows and the overall finish is not as smooth as I would have liked. I could have also mitigated that by not doing such a nose hair close photo of the mini, but for some reason i chose to do it this close anyways. I am thinking my next mini with this ridiculous filagree or whatever it is called will turn out better since I will make sure i dont flood it as often!lol

@hubbabubba
Just to let you know, I appreciate the input! it helps me so I am thankful for sure.

as far as weather/oxidation and wear and tear, I havent had much experience with these things and want to learn how to do them well. I almost went with some rust on the blade but was so happy with the way it turned out, decided to leave it. same with the head dress. I have always been a fan of the clean look rather than weathered. however, weathering is very popular right now and seing it so much has kinda made me come around to where I enjoy its skillful application. especially those pigments that people use i think produce fantastic results. I have a couple orcs coming up in my painting rotation (a few minis away lol) that will do well with some weathering. Ill post a WIP on them when I do and Id love your input.

thanks so much guys!

You\'ve done a nice job on what is a very diffcult model. I have a few of the Celts from Rackham and they are typically quite small with tonnes of detail. Which is probably why I haven\'t attempted to paint any myself :p

I like the warm earthy tones you have used. Grats on a job well done :D
