Or you can do one of those cool GD style thingies like the skeleton ready to assassinate the drunk sailor,or the beast of stir land....ooh ooh or the night lords squad....hell just start painting everything....and when credit is do I give it...lol no chance getting subtlety from me...just want everybody to know I've increased my painting in the last 3 years and am very proud of where I stand, but when I run into my childhood heroes, like Greg, just want them to know how much we've all been inspired and intrigued through those golden demon years!!! It was a treat to marvel at all those expert works.greg stallings included.

Thanks for looking out for me Chad, and thanks BAM for the huge compliment. It really is nice to know that folks have enjoyed some of my work and maybe gotten some inspiration. I felt exactly the same way about Chris Borer, Jakob Nielsen, Brett Dewald, and some of those guys that had already won an armload of trophies before I ever got started, and I spent hours studying pics of their work in White Dwarf. I'm pretty sure you'll be adding a couple more trophies to your collection too next week!

Anyway, as promised, here are more pics after a bit more work Sunday and Monday. I didn't want to spend a ton of time on this guy, but I did add a little freehand on those nice big flat spots on his legs. I also painted his backpack *blah...backpacks...:(* and started on his base. Those are pretty boring though so no pics.

More done over the weekend. I bit the bullet and painted the Night Lords emblem on his shoulder pad, rather than using a decal. Then worked on highlighting all of the chips on his armor. Also got the base mostly painted. I still need to add some detail and weathering to the bolter, and more work on the base. Getting close now though!

exellent work on the weathering and your freehand keeps blowing me away!

base is fantastic too but i was wondering if your're going to bring some of the soil colour onto the rock. the rock just looks a tad out of place at the moment, but that may just be me.

i can't wait to see this lil guy finished!

MightyChad, I am as tired of painting this guy as you are of seeing him. Let's see what you've posted...

Damn, I was supposed to use an airbrush! Now I'll have to buy an airbrush and start all over again!!

(Actually that does look like a good tutorial, I'll have to watch the rest when I get a chance.)

meaty_nosebleeds - Thanks, and I agree, the base does look very out of place next to him right now. I think I forgot what colors I used to use on the bases for these guys and chose the wrong grays. Hopefully it's nothing some weathering and washes can't fix.

if you want brush painting smurf tutrials i suggest PB's horus heresy ultrasmurf tutorials. really really nice stuff in there.
you are right too. all that base needs is a couple of washes and some weathering and it'll be right as rain!

Hello Khavor!
I had a fast readthrough all your old wip thread... Loved that little staircase Gandalf (nice greys), the mad doctor scene was ace!!! What happened to that little wolf fella' you were sculpting it looked terrific!
I think you have a great hand sculpting/constructing things... that marine spaceship or whatever is called is really great, it almost looks like made of plastic....
Following your new WIP from now on ;)

Thanks everyone. Maenas - Unfortunately wolfy still looks just how he did a few years ago when I last posted a pic of him, but he is still skulking around somewhere in the back of my closet, hoping to be finished some day. And yes, I've always felt I was more talented at building and sculpting, while my painting skills are passable but nothing to write home about. But that's something I'd like to change - still plenty of room for improvement!

I don't feel like I've done much since the last update, but there is a bit to show. I've filled up the empty spot on top of the bolter with more doodles, and gotten everything assembled. Had to take a break to fix the feet floating off the ground syndrome, but now he's standing under his own power on the base. Almost there now, and I'm ready to be done and move on to something different...

Found quite a lot of time to paint over the weekend, and I think the Night Lord is finished (pending any good suggestions folks might have). I'd like to try and get some better pics of him, but that will likely have to wait for the coming weekend. I've also started on Raven Skye (yay, not a space marine). I'd forgotten what a pain it can be to paint yellow and keep it smooth with many, many coats. :(

fantastic work on the space marine khav, i'd say tit the edges of the rokcs with a very small edge highlight but that's entirely up to you.

nice work on the yellow so far. it looks fantastic!

Excellence on the yellow and the marine is classic Greg smalling with the signature clean, crisp , style along with perfect strategically placed weathers and battle damage!!! Really excellent freehand as well....haven't skipped a beat...;)

So I spent a large chunk of my painting time this weekend taking pictures instead. Ugh, I hate trying to get good photos, and it's especially frustrating that a few years ago I knew what camera settings worked well. Fortuntely, now that I am a trained scientist, I know to write $$hi+ down so I don't have to figure out camera settings again in the future XD...

Anyway, here are some better pics. Now I need to sit down and stitch them together so I can post him in the gallery (grumble, grumble).
