This is going to be cool :) and I totally empathise with sometimes needing a little push to get painting, I found myself overwhelmed with stuff to paint and my desk is in desperate need of tidying which has put me off doing much at all, but I've started my entry now and just starting to get into the groove of it, I've not done much past base coating and I still need to build a base but it's the most I've done for about 2 weeks

Excellent Greg just remember painting HAS to be done....tell yourself ,because it's a spectator event, all of us as viewers are depending on your skills as a fantasy artist to paint those wonderful minis you do so we can get a chance to view them...it's all FOR OUR PLEASURE!!!

Superb base so far. I always find it amazing how one can create such great bases on such small surfaces. Painting on the girl and the sci fi section base are looking great too. I esoecially like how you get such vivd colours as yellow and red and keeping it realistic and not overwhelming the rest of the figure. great work!

Keep on painting,

Cheers guys. The challenge is still helping to get me painting, a few more hours in this weekend, and I've got a decent start on Haley, plus I'm still plugging away on Raven. The problem with doing a more complicated base is you have to spend more time on it :( ...

Th purple and blue look good together with the white framing it nicely. You might just have some potential in this hobby! Lol ;)

So the clock is ticking pretty loudly now for the Heroes/Villains entry. I did quite a lot on Haley this weekend, finished most of her left arm and did the cloak. I've been experimenting with mixing non-metallic paints in with my metals to mix the highlight colors. I've heard of others doing that before but never tried it myself. Seems to give a much higher highlight, and definitely more pigment to work with which makes it easier to do small rivets/buckles/etc.

I might just make it, but there will be a few late nights this week I think.

Looks cool so far, the metals look really nice, I may have to try out this method myself some time

Looks really good Khavor. My mixing NMM paints into your metals, I assume you mean whites and grays for highlights and black for shadows? Whatever the process, it works well. Nice contrast in the colours as well.

Cheers

Grumble...grumble...looks good. You could phone the rest in and it would still be a top knotch piece.

Thanks all,

Captain927: Yep, that's exactly it, although I didn't do the black for the shadows, just light gray/white for the highlights.

KruleBear: I may have to phone the rest in. I'm leaving for vacation Friday, and realized last night just how much I still have to do to get her done and photographed before then. I'd hoped to do lots of nice weathering and some borders & edging on the cloaks, but may not have time. :(

Really tight clean painting there Khavor...looking forward to seeing this finished along with all the other comp entries. Tempting me to stick my oar in the mix next time.

So I both did and didn't make it in time for the contest. I put in a couple of late nights and got Haley mostly finished, but then didn't have time to create a collage or get the pics posted before leaving for vacation. No problem I thought, I'll just do it from an airport or hotel. No such luck. Wifi at the airport and the first two hotels we stayed at were all terrible and I missed the deadline. :p Oh well, this gives me a chance to do a little more work on her. Not too much though as this is just a gaming piece and I'm anxious to get back and finish Raven. Anyway, here's Haley so far...

Great figure. Altough the figure is not in action pose, it had a lot of movement in it. I also think your choice of colours is spot on.

Best wishes,

That's some lovely Greg smallingesque treatment there. Really beautiful work capitalizing on the steady flow of the models pose. And a phenomenal color choice you decided on. Looks just like the P3 studio version matey!!!well done!!!
