Hello Khonner, I was passing by (read all of your wip) and wanted to tell you, that you are improving tons from the first post!!

Above all, I like how you pick your colours, but I also like that you are a fearless painter, and have no problems on painting 28, 32, 54mm, or I think even more (75mm?) with some of those busts, jumping also from a finely sculpted pinup to a "stoney skinned troll" should be not really easy, but you have done it without problems. ^^ I could not do that just as easily as you do!

The issue I think you need to work the most is your colour transitions, on some of your minis they are good or really good, but on others they are a bit abrupt, like if some steps where missing, I you understand what I mean.

I am trying to give you my two cents of how I have seen your progress so far, and wanted to leave my opinion for you to consider. ;)

Forgive me if I sound a bit silly/rude, because english is not my mother tongue, in fact writing/reading here is helping me to improve it xD

Hi Maenas,

I appreciate your feedback and for you stopping by my WIP. I think my jumping around is due in part to a slight case of ADD, too many shineys. I fully agree with you that my color blending/theory needs a lot of work and with the help of the people here and reading a color theory book suggested by BloodAsMedium that's what I've been focusing on for a few weeks now. The book has opened my eyes slightly to the basics, not exactly an "Ah HA" moment, but a "hey, that makes more sense now" one. Slow and steady, I suppose.. Like most people in this forum, I have plenty of minis to keep me painting for years to come. Feel free to stop by again and leave feedback, good or bad

Update on the warrior woman - I think I need to fix up some of the highlights,. Like I'm pretty happy with the skin. Feedback is welcomed! Thanks..

Thats looking pretty good, you have some good brighter tones going on there, and some volume.
Work on you brush control to make the areas you're working on a bit tighter (only practice).

Now lets see if we can smooth out the transitions go back over your 1st and a little of the 2nd highlights with a 50/50 (or more) diluted mix of your washes, and afew splotches. your goal here is to phase the transitions to make them softer. You may have to put a few more glazes of the diluted wash on the 1st transition.
The purples came out great too!
Have a watch of this its about glazing, I hope this will help with what you are working on :)

Looking great! That sword, the cloak and leg armor especially. Really got some great texture on the cloak. How big is that bust? Seems like a good start on it too!

Thanks Scherdy and Canny.. The bust is a 1/10 scale so, it's about 3" tall by 2.5" wide. I'm trying a little NMM on the warrior's sword, but not sure if I did it right.. NMM experts - can you take a look at it? Thanks!

Personally, I am loving the bust. You did an excellent job with the basecoat and the first highlights. Just blend the edges a little better and you have yourself the start of a 10.0 there.

Another er thing that stands out to me is the warrior chick's cloak. Top work there. Edges need blended a bit but wow I couldn't have used better colors myself. An all around excellent job.

The sword needs work. Essentially it look like a very dark grey bottom half. The top has great blending from medium to light at the end of the sword, but it needs to be darker around the base (on just the upper half of sword). Then the bottom half of the blade needs similar gradients. Ok so where the upper half is the lightest, the lower half should be the darkest (at the tip). Where the upper half is darkest, the lower half is lightest (at the base). Then edge highlight with a range of your highlight colors, maybe even edge highlight with as dark as gray in areas. I see you edged the middle a bit with pure white. It's a little shakey tho. If you can't get it to look perfect and clean, don't do it at all. PRO TIP: Use a toothpick with an end chewed off and still wet to rub off mistakes with edge highlighting.

That warrior woman is coming along very nicely ,and that bust , wow, those base coats should smooth out just right . I haven't got the nuts to try one of them yet good on you champ

Thanks all.. Blood - I figured that the bottom edge of the sword would be in shadow, that's why I stuck with the darker blue-grey. I can darken the part near the hilt, I understand that, and fix the strong highlight where the 2 edges meet, but do I need to add some light to the bottom edge even though I think it's in shadow? Are you suggesting that I reverse the bottom edge, so it's lightest at the hilt and darkest at the tip? (basically the inverse of the top edge)

Nmm is not my strong suit but what I can say is all around great job as per the sword bfok is correct the bottom half of the sword the part near where the points direction should be the darkest part so in truth and theory the part towards the pointy end should be the darker part of the blade swords pointed down the pointy end is darker gradient ,swords pointed up the pointy end is the lightest hope this helps ,but if you wanted to keep it and apply this on the future minis you can do that as well as thse are some of the best work I've seen from you.

Yes reverse it and yes even in shadows things get highlighted and shaded it's just the parts in light are twice as strong so add two more steps of highlighting if we give it numerical solutions which is how I work.
